A New School Year

Welcome Back!

Hello everyone and welcome to a new school year! I hope you had a great summer, full of relaxation! I am very excited to say that I (Melissa) will be the administrative librarian this year. I look forward to supporting you in the classroom and collaborating with you on projects.

Cindy is very happy to have her youngest son, Timmy, at AES this year!

From the Library

This year, communication from the library will be sent out at least twice a month in this online newsletter format. In the newsletter I will include online resources that you could use in your instruction, announcements (like when we are giving away free books!), and letting you know when we receive new books in the library to help support the implementation of Common Core and STEM. The newsletter will be short and sweet!

A Fresh Look

The library has gotten a little bit of a makeover! The nonfiction section has also been updated with signage to better help students and teachers find what they are looking for quickly and efficiently. Come in and check it out!

New Books

Back to School

Looking for a "Back to School" themed book to read in your classroom? Come by Melissa's office to look through some old favorites we've pulled and some brand new books like Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, You're Wearing THAT to School?, a Pete the Cat version of Wheels on the Bus, and my new favorite The Day the Crayons Quit.

Online Resources to Consider

Common Core

Edutopia has some great links on the Common Core to help refresh your knowledge and learn more.

Online Storytime

The next best thing to having an author visit - the author narrating their books online! Here you will find 16 classic (The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, Strega Nona) and current books (Pinkalicious, If You Give a Mouse A Cookie, Smash! Crash!) with the majority read by their creators.

Also, if you have a Harford County Public Library card, you have access to Ebooks from a variety of companies. Take a look here:
