TES Science and Technology January
Mrs. Muraca
The 3rd Annual Little Einstein's Science Expo Scheduled for Thursday, April 12th
Calling all 3rd-5th graders whom are interested in presenting a science project after researching topics in their grade level themes. 5th graders will be allowed to present possible experiments and discuss topics about Life Science themes. 4th graders will present and share experiments about Physical Science and 3rd graders will be allowed to present and share experiments about Earth and Space Science. This is a fun way to research, become an expert on a topic of interest and demonstrate your abilities to think like a scientist using the Scientific Method.
This activity is not mandatory, but it can promote a great deal of confidence, knowledge and pride while learning about science topics. Children are encouraged to work in groups up to a maximum of 4 per group or they can work independently. Everything your child needs to learn about how to get started is in their Google Classroom account in the Science & Technology section. Steps to get started:
1. type in www.google.com in URL
2. click on the sign in button
3. Username is your username:
3rd graders 27lastnamefirstinitial@tyngsboroughps.org
4th graders 26lastnamefirstinitial@tyngsboroughps.org
5th graders 25lastnamefirstinitial@tyngsboroughps.org
4. Password is typically: just4_____________
5. Click on Classroom in the square apps
6. Find Science & Technology section and visit your announcement with the 3 attachments to read and print out.
7. Sign up sheet must be filled out and returned to Mrs. Muraca by one person in your group. If I am not in my classroom, you may leave it on my chair and if my door is locked you may slide it under my door. Just let me know sometime throughout the day to confirm I received it.
Have fun and stay tuned for possible dates of after-school time to stay and research, print out information and work on your projects. We will most likely only offer 2-3 (1hour sessions) so be sure to meet with your partner or group member's outside of school as well.

Code.org Accomplishments
I am so happy with the progress and interest of so many students in grades 1st-5th to complete lessons in Code.org. So many girls and boys at TES have spent time outside of school working on their coursework. The problem-solving skills the students are learning will assist them to become more confident in more challenging code activities at the TMS and THS levels.
You can use computers or tablets in Code.org. Please be sure to login through my Mrs. Muraca's hotlist:

5th grade Google Sheets
Students across the 5th grade used formulas to multiply and add in a fun activity in Google Sheets. After showing them the way to calculate the amounts, I finally showed them a quick trick that I hope they will apply to their future accounting or budget needs. Ask your 5th grader to show you at home. :0)
4th Grade - Moon Phases
Using Google Classroom, students are using the Drawing tools in Google Docs to create the cycle of the Moon phases over a given time period in May of 2011. I love how some of your children are taking what they learn in class and make other things like a Science Experiment Slide using the drawing tools. Way to go Natalie L.!!!
3rd Grade - Pangolin
Your 3rd grader has been busy typing 3 paragraphs using Google Docs in their Google Classroom in order to learn about changing paragraph indents, changing fonts, changing font size, changing alignments, making things bold, italics, and underlined, changing paragraph spacing, finding fonts not listed, and using the bullet option for a list form. As always, please allow your child time at home to practice www.edutyping.com.
2nd Grade
Your 2nd grader is learning about how to use Pages Word Documents. We are opening a new document, learning how to name and save it in our Documents folder and search Kiddle.co using kimages to identify our favorite animals. Then, we are using the right click option on our mouse to copy an image, then go back to our Pages document to paste it and add text. Your child is enjoying the "magical" power to copy and paste. We read What If You Had Animal Eyes? by Sandra Markle to learn about some exciting animals and how they see. The website we will use for our facts is
https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/
1st Grade
Your First Grader learned how to create a picture drawing and add text in the www.abcya.com activity called StoryMaker. They were allowed to print and then color their picture to take home. This activity teaches them mouse control, undo, print preview, print options. The first graders love to be able to create something tangible to show their success. This activity will become a choice later after your child completes other challenging lessons. Nicely done!!!
