What is Mr. WHS?
For the past 13 years, Watauga High School has hosted a very special, all-male pageant that we call The Mr. WHS Pageant. This pageant began in 2000 when the Student Council came up with this fundraising idea to raise money to help Mr. Lan O’Laughlin, a science teacher and swim coach at the high school who had been diagnosed with liver cancer. Each year, Student Council provides financial assistance for three to four local families who are experiencing hardships. Mr. WHS is a non-profit event and all proceeds from the contest are evenly split and directly given to each recipient.
This beloved 4th grade teacher at Hardin Park Elementary School has battled several cancers this past year. She and her sweet nephew, Andrew, have persevered through this difficult time with the support of family, friends, and the Watauga community.
The Johnson Family
This family of seven is working hard to make ends meet after their father, Earl Johnson, suffered from a severe stroke. Their family has five students that were or are a part of the WCS community.
The last family was selected by one of the WCS Counseling Departments.
