To the Class of 2020! The SENIORS!!!!
Welcome back! Now that school is just around the corner, I want to encourage you to sign into your Naviance Student account. This site has been updated with new information, including details from last year's graduating class that may be helpful to you in your college and career planning. Here is a video to remind you how to navigate the site. NAVIANCE TOUR
If you have forgotten your account password, there is a link on the Naviance Student main page that you can click to reset your account. If you have forgotten the e-mail address you used to register, or need further assistance, please contact your me.
It's your senior year so many of your will be applying to college. As you enter the school year here are a few things to remember and help you.
- You are required to earn 24 credits to graduate including 4 English, 3 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 2 Art/Humanities, 1 PE, 1/2 Health and 7.5 electives. Make sure you check your schedules and transcripts to verify that you have what you need. You have personal responsibility for yourself while I am checking the schedules and transcripts of nearly 380 students. Help me to help you!!!!
- You must complete 20 hours of community service by May 1, 2020 in order to graduate.
- All high school transcripts must be requested via Naviance Here is a video to help you in this endeavor. REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS
- If you are applying via Common App you must NOT request letters of recommendation through Common App but instead through Naviance. Your failure to follow this will compromise your classmates ability to request letters of recommendation.
- If you are applying via Common App you must "match" your common app account to your Naviance account. Here is a short instructional video to assist you in that endeavor. COMMON APP MATCHING
- Remember to ask your teachers personally for a recommendation before sending them a Naviance recommendation request. Here is a video to help you through the recommendation request process in Naviance. REQUEST RECOMMENDATIONS.
- If you need a recommendation from me, I require you to first complete the senior profile. Many teachers will also use this or require a "resume" of your experiences.
- Take a senior SAT or ACT. Even if you have achieved a score worthy of admission to your dream school, a higher score could raise your potential scholarship amount..
- October 1st is the opening date for FAFSA. I encourage you to both apply and apply as close to that date as possible in order to get the earliest possible financial aid package for consideration.Waiting is not a good thing to do when it comes to the FAFSA.
- There is a financial aid night at Lakeland on September 11th. More details to follow.
- Check with family (mom, dad, grandparents) and your own employer to see if there are scholarships that they offer that you may be eligible to apply for.
There will be plenty more tips to follow. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and concerns.
Best of luck in the coming year.
Yours truly,
Mrs. deQuevedo
