The Facts

~Suicide is the second leading cause of death between the ages 10-24

~More teenagers and young adults die from suicide from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, influenza, etc.

Facts

~Suicide death rates vary considerably among different groups of people

~For many years, the suicide rate has been about 4 times higher among men than among women

~The economic cost of suicide death in the US was estimated in 2010 to be more than $44 billion annually

~As with suicide deaths, rates of attempted suicide vary considerably among demographic groups

~Non- fatal injuries due to self harm cost an estimated $2 billion annually for medical care.
