Reignier Catholic School Newsletter
2nd November 2022 - Issue # 10
WELCOME
We warmly welcome Hannah Ambattu (Room 5) and her family to Reignier Catholic School. Hannah, we wish you every success in your learning journey.
FROM THE TUMUAKI
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.
There is only one way to begin my section of the newsletter and that is to do an almighty shout out to the Friends of Reignier and Gala committee and all the helpers from the Gala on Saturday. What an amazing day and feeling of Community. It truly was a special event to be part of and to see so many past parents, students, teachers, staff and our current community on site supporting this event. The FoR Committee announced over the weekend that they have banked close to $27, 000. This outstanding result could not have happened without all the mahi that took place. Thank you to everyone who contributed in some way from our stall helpers, our sponsors, those people who made donations, those who came on the day: thank you, thank you, thank you.
I would like to make special mention of Kristi Lambert, Michelle Reilly and Duane Coffin who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and from the front, for months leading up to Saturday. Thank you for all your time, going to meetings, the long hours, the emails and many phone calls and time away from your own families. Our Reignier community is extremely grateful for your kindness and generosity that you have given thank you, thank you, thank you.
Finally, thank you to the families who continuously give us their ongoing support, trust and walk alongside us in carrying out the vision of the kura and the Mission of the Catholic Church. We are grateful and we feel extremely privileged that you entrust your child’s learning and education to us. This is a blessing, and we take this role very seriously, the children who sit in our classes are at the heart of everything we do. We still have a full six weeks of learning to go, with a lot packed into our busy calendar. Keep an eye out for upcoming events via the school app, Seesaw and list below. We are very excited to begin working on our 2023 planning and all the exciting opportunities that our tamariki will be able take part in, showing off their gifts and talents.
God bless
Teresa Shanks
ALL SOULS DAY LITURGY
Today we celebrated All Souls Day. The whole school walked to St Mary's Church this morning for liturgy. The children and staff lay cutout butterflies in memory of their loved ones who have passed.
Special thanks to all our parents/whānau who supported us in our All Souls Day liturgy.

TERM 4 SPORTS
At the end of last term we put out all the sports that we had on offer in Term 4. This term we are excited to announce that we have the following sports teams representing our kura.
Basketball - TIC Miss Ellison
Year 1/2 skills sessions, 2 x Year 3/4 teams, Year 5/6 team
Cricket - TIC Miss Baddeley

Volleyball - TIC Mrs Jackson

Netball - TIC Miss Baddeley
Year 1/2 team, Year 3/4 team
Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough students for the Year 5/6 hockey team. Where possible we have tried to place children into teams at other schools.
Thank you to all those who have volunteered to oversee the teams, as we couldn't have this many teams without your support. Thank you for living our Gospel Values through your service to our school.
As well as all of the above sport, all children in Year 3-6 will be taking part in sessions run by Volleyball HB later in the term.
Smash Play cricket has also been introduced at lunchtimes for Year 0-3 (Tuesday) and Year 4-6 (Thursday). This programme is essentially designed to get kids active with a focus on cricket skills. HB Cricket are running this programme.
Should you have any queries regarding any of the sports codes above, please feel free to contact the teacher-in-charge (TIC).
YEAR 6 GRADUATION DINNER
The Year 6 Graduation Dinner will be held on Monday 12th December at 6pm at the Taradale RSA. The Friends of Reignier will be covering the cost of the meal and a drink for our Year 6 students. Each student is welcome to bring up to 2 adults to help celebrate this wonderful occasion. There will be a buffet and drinks cost for accompanying adults and this will be payable on the night. We ask you to RSVP for your family to Mrs Jackson rjackson@reignier.school.nz by Monday 5th December. The Year 6 trophies will be presented as part of this evening.
VISITORS - SIGNING IN & OUT
If you enter the school grounds during the day, please enter via the school office, sign in and speak to Mrs Gouder who will direct you. Please ensure on exiting the grounds, you sign out. This is a Health and Safety requirement. Thank you for your support.
ENROLMENTS FOR 2023, 2024 & BEYOND & STUDENTS LEAVING
If you have a child who will be turning 5 in 2023 or in 2024 and beyond, it is not too early to get them enrolled or indicate that you are intending to enrol your child at Reignier Catholic School.
Please call into the school office to get a preference form, make an appointment with Fr Barry to have this signed and drop back to school. Without this form, we cannot accept your child's enrolment.
Equally, if you are leaving Reignier at the end of the year (other than our Year 6's) to another school in the area or out of town, please let Mrs Shanks know, as this will impact our class sizes and staffing levels for 2023 and beyond.
This enables the school management team to forecast staffing for next year and the year after.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Shanks on 844 2144.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent, please let the school know by either phoning the office or using the app. Please DO NOT Seesaw message your child's teacher as teachers are busy prepping for the school day and often don't see their messages till much later in the day and this may result in you receiving a phone call checking in.
