Note from the Principal

February 2019

Winter Weather Gear and Recess

Please continue to send all the essential winter weather gear to school with your child; boots and inside shoes, hat, snow pants, gloves, etc. We have outdoor recess unless the temperature or wind chill is below 10 degrees. Make sure your child is prepared! Additionally if your child is well enough to be at school, we expect they are well enough for outdoor recess. If they need to stay in a Dr’s note is required.

School Closing Information

As winter weather approaches, I would like to review some of Arbor’s practices and procedures in the handbook regarding school closings. Specifically, we ask that you watch WWMT (Channel 3) or WOOD (Channel 8). We will make every effort to announce the closing by 6:30 am. Also follow us on Facebook and/or sign-up for Remind to receive school closings and news information.

Winter Gala

Our Winter Gala will be held on February 8th from 5-7pm at the Riverside Golf Course. We will be celebrating our 20th year anniversary as well. Students must be accompanied by an adult for the whole event. We have invited former principals and staff from our management company who have helped Arbor along the way. Hope you can join us for a fun night of dancing.

Enrollment for 2019

Reenrollment for fall 2019 is under way! Please return your child's reenrollment green form as soon as possible. Returning this form is the only way to guarantee a spot for your child next year. We are also accepting applications for new students in all grades!

Spring Pictures from Lifetouch

· Spring Pictures will be taken on March 13th. Students may wear an outfit of their choosing for pictures. They must bring their uniform to change into after their picture is taken. Order forms will be sent home soon and pictures must be paid for on the same day.

Science and Art Fair

Join us for the science and art fair on February 28th from 5:00-6:00pm. All classrooms and students will have some type of art on display in the upper elementary building. Come see what are talented students come up with for their projects!

3rd Grade Coupon Book Fundraiser

Our third graders are sponsoring the SaveAround coupon book sale to raise funds for their trip to the State Capital Building in Lansing. SaveAround is a coupon book that offers hundreds of buy-one-get-one-free discounts in the Battle Creek area. The book sells for just $25.00. The book pays for itself after using it just 2 or 3 times. If you are interested in purchasing a coupon book, please let the office know. The sale ends on 2/7.

Lost and Found Items

Is your student missing any items? Our lost and found is growing. Ask Mrs. Kok or Mr. Jason to take a look at our lost and found.

Tis the Season for Sickness

This time of year, unfortunately, is when we start to see illnesses creep up and spread around school. Please know that we actively send students home that are sick, and will notify you if someone in your child’s class was diagnosed with a contagious illness/condition. We, as always, teach the students the importance of good hand washing, and also encourage the use of sanitizer. Please keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. We want to keep our students healthy!

Big picture

Safety Reminder!!!

We would appreciate it if students did not arrive at school in the morning until 8:00 am. We have supervision available at that time. Students are not to be dropped off at the center island between schools. There is absolutely no parking in the fire lane even if it’s only for a brief period. Parents may park in the parking lot or available spaces in the middle island and walk their child to class. For parents dropping off at the K-3 building, please remember to turn left before the CDC drive, and then exit or proceed to the 3-6 building. Small children are present under the CDC canopy quite frequently, and drive thru traffic for school drop off is prohibited. A reminder to parents to please not leave your car unattended in the circle drive between 8:00 – 8:30 am and between 3:00 – 3:35 pm. This allows us to provide a free flow of traffic and to safely unload/load the students into your car.

ARBOR ACADEMY IS A SMOKE AND DRUG FREE ZONE! No smoking on school grounds/property. Thank you for your cooperation.
