Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 18th December

Merry Christmas from Ripon Cathedral School

Merry Christmas

We have come to the end of a long term and the whole school community is looking forward to a well-earned rest. I love Christmas and the way it cheers us and lifts our spirits away from the dark evenings and mornings.

We have been preparing the children for Christmas in our Advent assemblies, reflections and our RE work. This week we celebrate this holy season with our Nativity, well done Year 2 on all of your hard work. If you wish to attend a church service over the Christmas holidays we have included local church service times below.

I would like to congratulate the kitchen staff, led by Mrs Webster, for their organisation of our annual Christmas lunch held in the hall on Wednesday. Many thanks to the staff for organising the Christmas parties this week (I had a quiet word with Santa who was really impressed with how many good boys and girls we have in school). The children demonstrated the true spirit of Christmas this week by helping raise funds for Text Santa, thank you to the children in year 6 for this idea. I must especially commend Holly and Lucy in year 5 for their cake stall to raise funds to support families in Cumbria. All their own work and ideas. We are very proud of you all.

I am sure that you would like to join me in thanking all of the staff and governors at our school for their continued tremendous hard work and commitment in 2015.

On behalf of everybody at Ripon Cathedral School, I wish you, your family and the children a restful and peaceful Christmas.

See you in 2016

Darren Dudman

Text Santa Appeal

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Text Santa appeal on Wednesday. The Christmas accessories worn by children added an extra festive feel to Christmas lunch day. In total you raised £133! At a time when family budgets are more squeezed than usual this is a generous donation. Thanks again.

Cake Sale for Flood Victims

On Thursday after school two of our Year 5 girls, Holly and Lucy arranged a cake sale on behalf of the flood victims in Cumbria. They organised it all themselves from promotion of the event to the baking of all the cakes. We are very proud of them for doing something which is very worthwhile to help others. They raised over £100!

Let's Celebrate

This week we published our termly "Celebrate" newsletter. If you haven't yet had chance to read it please click on the link below. It is full of all the great learning opportunities which the pupils have experienced, all of which have taken place in just one term! We want to share our good work with the wider community and so if you have any links to local businesses who would be happy to have some in waiting rooms or staff rooms then please speak to the school office. It would really help to promote the school.

Feliz Navidad

This week all our children received Christmas cards from the students at La Aneja and Nueva Segovia, our two partner schools in Spain. Our children also sent cards to Spain earlier in December. Thank you to Señorita Gomez for continuing to foster our links with these two schools.

Chicken Pox

Just to let you know that a number of children have been absent from school recently due to chicken pox. We send out this information for those who are at special risk such as pregnant women, newborn babies or those with a weakened immune system. At this time of year GPs and surgeries get very busy so we have added a link below to the NHS website for you to seek further advice if needed.
