The Technology Campus is incredibly thankful for all of our faithful readers, and for that we would like to reward our families. Moving forward we will have a NEWSLETTER QUIZ located under the Principal's corner.
Quiz completion will automatically place your student into a drawing for a Dress Down Pass. Dress Down Passes will be awarded to 10% of entries for each building. The number of entries will directly effect the amount of prizes awarded for the week. Entries selected from the lottery must be correct upon review.
We hope that you have fun, and enjoy reading this week's edition! Entries are due the morning of Monday, December 3rd.

IMPORTANT RE-ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
We need your help!
What did YOU do over Thanksgiving Break?
Pajama, blanket, and jacket drive
Next Week's Lunch Menu
Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten we learned about being “Thankful” and how we can be thankful to all those around us. We also learned about Fall harvests and how farmers work during the harvest.
Our favorite thing this week was sharing our thanks amongst all of our Kindergarten class during our Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday! We hope everyone has a safe and fun break! Gobble! Gobble!
First Grade
Ms. Molnar’s class is learning about addition strategies in math class. As well as continuing our unit on Pilgrims and Native Americans. We had so much fun at our First Grade Thanksgiving Feast! Thanks to everyone who helped make it special!
Mrs. Beckman’s class loved reading and learning about seasons and subject/verb agreement in reading. We also began understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction in math. Our big event of the week was our wonderful Thanksgiving feast! Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible!
In Ms. DiNuzzo’s class, students have been learning about geometric shapes, our earth and sky, and Pilgrims and Native Americans. Our 1st grade feast was a success and we thank you for your support! Over the break please have students continue to read for AR and complete iReady lessons. See you back on the 26th! Make it a great one!
Ms. Kelly’s class has enjoyed our deep dive into American history this week, as we have learned about the history of Thanksgiving. Students created timelines, hosted discussions about the similarities and differences in cultures, and celebrated all of our reasons to be thankful. Students are doing a great job breaking apart numbers to make ten before adding when working with larger numbers. Our fact fluency is getting better each day! Thank you families for making our Thankful Feast a wonderful event. The children and I are so grateful for your support. Have a great Fall Break!
Second Grade
Third Grade
Ms. Hurley’s class enjoyed learning about Tony Sarg, the inventor that created the gigantic balloons we all love to watch float by during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Not only did students learn about him and his balloons, they created their own! Students looked at clips of old parades, drew sketches of their balloon creations and then brought their ideas to reality. We had fun putting our balloons on parade for Mrs. Cybulski and Ms. Dinuzzo’s classes.
Our next field trip is to the Semoran Skateway where we will be connecting STEM with the fun of roller skating! The trip will take place on December 7th and the cost is $20. Please be submit your form and payment by November 27th!
Fourth Grade
Don’t forget to submit your payment for our upcoming field trip to see The Nutcracker! All permission slips and payments are due by Thursday, November 29.
Here are some important reminders for our upcoming trip to St. Augustine on Nov. 30th:
*Chaperone payments need to be submitted no later than Wednesday, November 29.
*Students will be able to arrive at school as early as 6:15 am that day. It is recommended students and chaperones arrive no later than 6:30 am. The buses are leaving at 7:30 am and will be returning around 7:30 pm.
*Students need to bring a packed lunch in a labeled, disposable bag. Please do not pack anything that needs to be microwaved or refrigerated.
*Students MUST wear either their class shirt or uniform shirt and close-toed, comfortable shoes. We will be walking ALL day. Students may wear whatever pants they choose. It is also recommended that students bring sunscreen if needed.
*Students are allowed to bring electronics and extra money for the trip. Students are solely responsible for whatever they choose to bring on the trip. It is recommended that students bring a small backpack to carry their belongings.
*St. Augustine is a rain or shine trip, so please check the weather the week of the trip and plan accordingly.
In Mrs. Juracich's class, we are investigating technology, engineers, and more specifically, ocean engineers in our Engineering is Elementary unit. So far we have discovered the technology is more than just an object with a screen or something that must be charged. For the full definition of technology, be sure to ask one of the engineers in our class!
Mrs. Colon’s class is learning about how to plan and budget for a Thanksgiving meal.
Mr. Press’s class had some great opportunities to teach each other as we reviewed for Chapter 2 Social Studies test on the Native Americans and Explorers of Florida.
Mrs. Michaud’s class has been hard at work this week! We finished our Pilgrims essays on Monday. We also learned how to multiply mixed numbers this week. We have made a lot of progress reading The Great Treehouse War as well!
Fifth Grade
Thank you to all the wonderful and generous parents that made Ms. Zaremski’s and Ms. Blaske’s Thanksgiving Celebration an awesome success. We couldn’t have done it without you! The 5th grade dads helped every step of the way. They rock!
Sixth Grade
Specials and Clubs k-6
Students in Computer class grades 4th- 5th will be participating in a coding competition. Students were sent home with a form for parents to fill out, please make sure it is returned to Mrs. Christian as soon as possible. 3rd grade is finishing up their lessons in Code.org, and 1st- 2nd learned about the season of all and how to create art on the computer.
Computer Science Week is December 3rd- 9th, try coding at home with your students.
Technology Tip for students: There are two different places to search from when you open up a web browser; there is the address bar and the search bar. ... The search bar is used when you either don't know the exact address of a site you are looking for, or when you would like to find multiple sites on a single topic. The address bar is used when the exact web address is known.
Mrs. Anderson’s World Travelers Club did their presentations this week. We learned all about Spain, France, Czech Republic, and Italy!

Science Fair
OSS’s science fair is an excellent opportunity for our students to explore their favorite topic in science. It provides an avenue for student research, allow students to be actively engaged in their own learning, and to use their own creativity to solve a pressing problem in an imaginative way. A science fair builds a bridge between home and school - establishing bonds between students, parents, and teachers and inspires students to become life long learners.
All forms must be typed or filled out using blue ink. NO pencil!
Mr. Stampas is the adult sponsor. Stampas@orlandoscience.org, (407) 253-7304
Form 1B is signed by the student and the parent. Besides the start date of experimentation on form 1A (10/20/17), all other forms prior to experimentation will be dated in September.

STEM teams Forming
We have new STEM teams forming for upcoming competitions. These teams will meet off campus. The competition dates are in December, February, and May. These are general lower cost than some of the competition teams, but some cost is required ($15 per student for the February event and about $50 per team for the May event, and money for the t-shirts if they are not donated, and kit items.) I highly suggest looking into where the coach/adults work to see if funds are available for sponsorships.
Here are the list of teams that are forming:
- Gliders (K-6)
- Math (K-6)
- Mousetrap Car (K-6)
- Water Bottle Rockets (K-6)
- Egg Drop (K-6)
- Energy Transfer Machine (Rube Goldberg) (3-6)
- Junior Solar Sprint (4-6)
- Critter Comfort Cottage (4-6)
- Solar Energy Cook-Off (4-6)
- Vex Robotics (6)
- Balsa Bridge (4-6)
Please sign up at http://bit.ly/ossenergywhizteams if you are interested in your student joining a team. Students/parents will be notified if the student is selected for a team. No coach = No team. The point of these teams is for the experience. This is our first year and there is NO pressure on coaches or teams to win. We want them to have the experience, have fun, and be engaged in STEM.

Orca's Core Values and character Education
Character Education has begun at OSES and we are having a great time learning our social skills at school and the students are learning how to use these tools successfully too! This year part of our Character Education curriculum we have introduced "Operation Impact" our goal is to share and show how our students are reaching out to the communities, families and other students to show their positive character traits.
Here are a few character traits:
- Kindness
- Empathy
- Trustworthy
- Reaching Out to Others
- Building Friendships
We want to see how your children are using their character traits outside of school and featuring them each week in our weekly newsletter!! This is a great way to spotlight your child's positive influence that they have in our community and school! We look forward to seeing your pictures and experiences.
Please send a few pictures and small description of your children's activity (encourage them to write it on their own too). Pictures must be handed in on Monday's in order to make it for the Friday newsletter. They can be sent in to your child's teacher or emailed to Mrs. Krygowski at katherine.krygowski@orlandoscience.org
We can't wait to see our wonderful students putting #Operation Impact to work in our community!!!
