Webster Central School District
2021-22 REOPENING UPDATE #3
August 20, 2021
Dear Webster CSD Families,
As we prepare to open our schools full-time and in-person on Wednesday, September 8, I have a few updates and reminders to share.
Beginning on Monday, August 23, Webster CSD will begin requiring universal masking for all students and staff indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Outdoor masking will be optional.
All of the district’s health and safety decisions remain focused on the goal to remain in school full-time and in-person, avoiding possible exposure to COVID-19 and a subsequent quarantine situation. Quarantining would certainly disrupt the educational experience for our students and staff. As a reminder, exposure is defined as:
Being around someone who is COVID-19 positive longer than 15 minutes,
Closer than six feet,
With one or more persons who are unmasked.
When all parties are masked, there is no exposure.
Universal masking removes the risk of our students and staff being exposed to someone who may be COVID-19 positive. We are basing this decision on the guidance we continue to receive from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the New York State Education Department, the Monroe County Department of Public Health, and our district’s physician. Please visit our new Fall 2021 Opening web page if you would like to review our opening plan and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding our plan. You may continue to submit questions by completing the Google form at the bottom of the FAQ page. We will also be sharing an FAQ video on Monday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m. on our opening page that will answer many of the questions we have been receiving.
As I shared at the board of education meeting this past week, we have an update regarding athletics. Monday marks the beginning of pre-season for all fall junior varsity and varsity sports. As a district, we are thrilled to welcome back our fall student athletes and have protocols in place to keep them healthy and safe. Masking of athletes and coaches will be required when inside any school facility including locker and weight rooms; outdoor masking for our student athletes will be optional. At this point in time, spectators will also be permitted to watch indoor and outdoor sports with the same masking protocol in place: indoors, masking required and outdoors, masking optional.
Yesterday, all families received a transportation survey that will help our staff plan for arrival and dismissal needs this year. You may take the survey until Thursday, August 26 using the IC Parent Portal online or the IC Parent Portal app. Once logged in, click the SURVEY link in the middle of the page and complete the Return To School Transportation Survey for K - 12 (please complete one survey per student in grades K - 12). If you have never logged in to the portal or need assistance in doing so, please immediately contact ICPortal@webstercsd.org.
As the anticipation builds and the excitement around having our students back in classrooms and on campus, I look forward to a new year together.
All my best,
Brian Neenan
Interim Superintendent of Schools
