Letter From The CEO:
Hello everyone, and welcome to October.
Our hours have expanded to maintain social distancing without competition for time slots. While we have hours available six days a week for those who need to come in to browse or use a computer, curbside service is still our primary way of delivering your materials to you. Simply order your stuff by placing a hold online or emailing curbside.bcld@gmail.com – we’ll let you know when your items are ready, so you can drive up to the outside book-drop and give us a call. We’ll bring everything out for you. Curbside runs Monday through Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00.
Book clubs are back in swing. Afternoon groups are meeting in person with limited seating and all social distancing precautions in place, so please register. Evening groups are meeting via Zoom. Our regular Book Club is reading the thriller The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, and will host the discussion on October 27. Our Compelling Issues book club is covering the topics of poverty management and political reform this month, discussing Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor on October 8, and The Politics Industry: How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy on October 22.
It’s election season again, so we’ll host our annual Ballot Read-Through via Zoom on October 20. If you think reading through the entire Blue Book is tough, we hear you. Tune in for the quick version of everything in the book. Don’t worry, we won’t tell you how to vote—we never do. Disclaimer: we’re librarians, not lawyers, but we can say with certainty that you’ll leave knowing what you need to research more before you turn in your ballot. And remember, when your ballot is ready, the County’s ballot box is on the east side of our building.
Two more Kit and Caboodles are coming this month. If you’ve missed our classes as much as we have, simply drop in to pick up a kit and have a DIY class at home. This month’s kits focus on…. Just kidding, I’m not telling. Watch our Facebook page for topics and availability information.
Happy fall to everyone, and we hope to see you soon.
Amie P.
Library CEO
