Second Grade News
Week of April 16 - 20
Language Arts/Reading
This week we are reading fictional stories. We discussed how fictional stories have made up characters, settings, and they often have a problem (conflict) and a solution. We are learning that the point of view of a character can influence how a story is told. We practiced looking for clue words that describe how a character might feel while reading different short stories. This week we also learned about idioms and what commonly used idioms mean. We made posters of our favorite idiom and then had our classmates guess which idiom it was and what it means.
Math
This week in math we are adding and subtracting with coins. We are practicing buying items with our coins and figuring how much change we have left over. Keep on practicing!
Social Studies
We are learning map terms and how to locate things by using a map!
Some map terms we learned: legend, scale, compass, and symbols. Second graders even made our own treasure maps!
