Internet Security: A How-To
Internet security, Always a step ahead
The first step to being safe online is having a secure password. A password is the key to almost all your private information. Given that users have a free choice for their password, if users select a four digit password to their online information, nearly 11% of the 3.4 million passwords are 1234 !
MIX YOUR PASSWORD WITH LETTERS, NUMBERS, AND SYMBOLS
Adding the mix of letter and number can make the password more difficult to guess. Including uppercase letter and symbol often make it harder to crack by other people. As a rule of thumb, the more random it is the safer your password. The length of the password also add extra protection to your security.
Example:
TO0 l@26ramen##
PASSWORD SHOULD HAVE LESS OF YOUR GENERAL INFORMATION
A password should contain less of your general information as much as possible, i.e. your initial, berth date, social security number and so on. Still, it could be something personal as long as it is know only to you.
USE DIFFERENT PASSWORDS ON DIFFERENT WEBSITES OR ACCOUNTS
By creating different passwords, it is difficult for other people to decipher or guess your tendencies and habits. Thus, exposing one password will not effect the security of the rest of what you have. 61% of people reuse the same password on multiple websites.
