NEWS FROM OUR NURSE
While it is impossible to avoid germs, it is possible to reduce their spread by practicing good health habits at home and school. Remind your child to:
Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 15 – 20 seconds. This is particularly important after toileting, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.
Properly use and dispose of tissues after coughing or sneezing. If no tissue is available,
teach your child to sneeze or cough into their sleeve.”
Avoid sharing food or drinks.
Avoid touching mouth, nose, and eyes.
Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
If your child becomes ill, please remember to keep your child home until they have a normal temperature without medication and/or have not vomited for at least 24 hours. For the flu, children should remain home until symptoms are gone and free of a fever for a full 24 hours. Please realize that your child is contagious to the entire class if they come back too soon and more likely to pick up a secondary infection. Additional information can be found on the district website under Health Services regarding general guidelines for keeping your child home from school due to an illness.
Thank you and best wishes for a happy and healthy school year.
Susan Linton, MSN, RN, NCSN
