Candidates Certified for April 5 JEGB Election
Voters in the Normandy Schools Collaborative will have the opportunity to elect two candidates to the Joint Executive Governing Board at the April 5, 2022 election. The candidates on the ballot are:
- Christopher Petty
- Marcieta Reed
- Harlan Hodge
- Violet Taylor
- Catasha Jones-Moran
- Joseph Zenon
- Robin Blount
More information is forthcoming. A candidates forum hosted by the St. Louis Branch of the League of Women Voters will be held Monday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. (The link will be posted in the coming weeks.)
Normandy HS Chef Named Missouri ProStart Educator of Excellence
Chef Andrea O’Bannon, an instructor in the Culinary Arts program at Normandy High School, has been selected as the Missouri ProStart Educator of Excellence for 2021-22. She was selected from more than 120 ProStart Educators throughout the state.
Normandy was one of the first schools to offer ProStart®, a national two-year high school cornerstone program of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF). It’s launched the careers of many Normandy students, now succeeding in the culinary arts. Normandy High School will open a new culinary suite as part of the multi-million-dollar renovation of West Hall. Chef O’Bannon played an integral part in the design and capacity of the space that will serve the school’s culinary students.
Chef O’Bannon will be honored at the Missouri Restaurant Association Inaugural Dinner in Columbia, Missouri on March 6th. She will also receive a $750 cash award and be invited the ProStart Conference in Las Vegas over the summer.
ELC Principal Named to Early Childhood Hub
Dr. Crystal Hunter, Principal of the Normandy Early Learning Center, has been named to the St. Louis Early Childhood Regional Hub for Missouri.
As part of the leadership group, Dr. Hunter will serve as a liaison for Missouri's new Office for Early Childhood at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The hub will help with new early childhood initiatives for the St. Louis-area and raise any concerns about early childhood from our region to DESE.
Dr. Hunter serves as the Director of Early Childhood Education for the Normandy Schools Collaborative and the Principal of the Normandy Early Learning Center.
St. Louis County Apprenticeship & Career Pathways Showcase to be Held for Grades 6-12
Special School District of St. Louis County, the career and technical education provider for high school students, is hosting the St. Louis County Apprenticeship and Career Pathways Showcase. Three events will be held across the county, which will feature regional employers and apprenticeship representatives who are seeking new talent and are eager to meet with students in grades 6-12 and recent graduates.
Events are planned for the following dates and locations:
- Saturday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Eureka High School
- Saturday, March 5, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., North Tech High School
- Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., South Tech High School

STEM Saturday Academy is Enrolling Now
Middle school girls can now sign up for STEM Saturday Academy through Black Girls Do STEM. The 8-month STEM experience triggers increased curiosity through education, access and opportunity for science, technology, engineering and mathematics in black girls.
All programs are FREE to district families and run from February to October. The academy meets once a month and can be done in-person or virtually. Sign up online at BGDSTEM.com.
Free COVID-19 Testing Resumes
After increased demand for testing led the Washington University site to shutdown, FREE COVID testing will resume at NSC beginning on Friday, February 18.
Testing will be available Fridays at a special drive-through clinic 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Normandy Early Learning Center parking lot, 7855 Natural Bridge. NSC is offering the saliva-based COVID-19 testing via a partnership with Washington University. If you need testing on a different date, please call 314-454-4269.
St. Louis County COVID-19 Vaccine Incentive Program
With children ages 5-11 now eligible to get vaccinated, they are also eligible for the DPH’s vaccine incentive program. St. Louis County parents or guardians will receive gift cards if their children 5 and older get vaccinated.
To qualify for this incentive, individuals must:
- Live in St. Louis County
- Be 5 years of age or older
- Get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at a Department of Public Health (DPH) vaccination event.
Families with multiple children are eligible to receive gift cards for each child who is fully vaccinated.
