Ohio State Test for 3rd Graders

English Language Arts

Assessment Time is Here

On Thursday, December 3rd, students in the third grade will take the new state test for English Language Arts. The test is made up of two parts. Students will have 90 minutes to complete each part. We will give part 1 in the morning and part 2 after lunch.

Why Do We Test Students?

A minimum score on The Third Grade test in English Language Arts is required to move to fourth grade as part of Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee. As much negative press as testing often receives, tests do tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards.

How Can You Support Your Student?

Please ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep on Wednesday. If you are able, ensure that your child eats a healthy breakfast which includes some protein (eggs, meat, dairy, soy) to help them sustain their energy. Foods high in sugar can cause a "crash" which may lead to an unfocused, tired mind. As always, we will serve a healthy breakfast free of charge, and will also provide a healthy snack.
If you drop off your child, please ensure that you arrive on time. Our doors open at 8:55. Arriving on time will lessen the stress for your child on an already stressful day.
Encourage your child to do their best work and to check their work. Make sure that your child knows that this is not a race, nor a competition. Those that take the the time to read closely and to answer written questions completely will typically outperform those that rush. The test is on paper this year- and this makes it easier for students to go back and check their answers.
