Mr. Harris' Thoughts
GES Families,
Well, here we are at the end of February and looking at the start of March. I wanted to share some numbers and facts about our school year so far...
- Winter conferences attendance rate was 94%. This is a good number for the winter and I really appreciate the priority you put on the communication with your child's teacher.
- The planning process has begun and I am working closely with the district on enrollment for the 24-25 academic year. If you have any neighbors with Kindergarten aged children, ask them if they are enrolled! 😃
- Today is day 109 of the school year and I have made 182 contacts with parents since September. I started tracking this to see my impact and what communication looks like. One interesting fact is that 2nd grade connections are at 25% and 1st grade is 15% of my parent communication.
- Today there were 65 children absent from school. That number is a little higher than what we have been seeing the last 2 months and a little more than 10% of the student body. We are communicating with staff to help children remember to wash their hands and sanitize before lunch and snack.
- RtI tells us that 80% of children should be at mastery after the first opportunity of learning. That includes academics and behavior. Our data indicates that fewer than 10% of students are receiving behavior intervention... this means that over 90% of our student population is meeting expectations for behavior regularly.
Thank you!

GES Walking School Bus
GES will be starting the Walking school bus program again for Spring 2024 and are looking to start March 11, 2024 and it will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The route starts at Jennerjohn Park, we will have adults there at 7am and plan to leave the park at 7:15am to make it to GES by 7:30am. We will need to have a permission slip signed for your students. This will be e-mailed to you for your student(s) after the interest form is completed. Here is the Walking School bus interest form.
Thanks,
Jess Kleier and Genifer Schaefer (your GES Walking School Bus Coordinators)
