Mrs. Cooper and Miss Locke's Class 1-4-18
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
"SHARE SENTENCE SHARE"
We created a new morning routine, thanks to our Reading Specialist, Mrs. BC! The teacher will choose a sentence from one of the students' morning conversations and each student will become the word in the sentence. The standing students represent the "who" and the sitting students represent the "what" in the sentence. The students will also share the marker to help write the words, usually writing the letter that is in their name. The students will also come up and read the sentence, showing that they can touch each word as they read.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading -With modeling and support, we will answer questions about unknown words in a text.
Speaking/Listening and Foundational Skills - With modeling and support, we will speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings and ideas clearly. We will demonstrate an awareness that words are read from left to right, top to bottom and page by page.
Writing - We will produce complete sentences in shared language activities.
PreK goes caroling around the school singing Jingle Bells before the break!
Using Elements of Dance and Music in Math
Pattern Foundations - We will focus on moving in counts of 6, 7 and 8. We will review how to perform for an audience.
Grouping Games - We will create and form groups numbers of different shapes.
Math Stories - We will use "Bunny Hop" to identify numbers and count in order.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
Students will describe the weather using observations.
Students will identify ways people adapt to the environment such as wearing clothing that is appropriate to the weather.
THEATRE
We are using objects to enhance our imaginations along with process dramas to separate reality from fantasy. We used the story, "The Littlest Elf" to create a drama. The students became the littlest elves and tried to find which shop that they could work in, but quickly found that they were too little to work in any of them. Through problem solving, the elves came up with the best solution, working together to make gifts for all of the workers!
Classroom Requests
If you would like to donate some supplies for our class, we are in much need of tissues, gallon zip bags, antibacterial wipes and paper towels. Thank you so much!! Also, we still go outside for recess as long as it is above 20 degrees (including wind chill), so please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Our Hoppy Store is getting a little low, so if you have any gently used small toys or items that you would like to donate, please send them on in.
