The Gator Gazette

Gator Greetings
Thank you to all the families who took time out of your busy schedule last night to join our Back to School Night via Zoom. Although we would have loved to welcome you into the building, I hope you found the teachers’ presentations informative and inspiring. They have so many amazing things planned for your children this year. For those of you unable to make it, please take the time to watch the video recording that your child’s teacher sent. We value your partnership at Allisonville!
All families should plan to join us next Tuesday, August 24th from 4:00-6:00 for our Book Fair Sidewalk Sale. The Kona Ice Truck will be here as well for anyone who would like to enjoy a snow cone while they shop. We are thrilled to be able to welcome families out front of Allisonville and hope that many of you can attend! The Book Fair will continue in the media center through next Tuesday as well for students who would like to shop during the school day. Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped at the Book Fair this week. It was lovely to welcome volunteers back into the building this year.
Next week is our first Early Release Day on Thursday, August 26th, and student dismissal will be at 2:15. Please remember that your child will arrive home a little earlier on Thursday afternoon and if they are a car rider, please plan to be here an hour earlier than usual that day. Our staff spends this time each month learning and growing in district and school-wide professional development.
Next Friday, August 27th, we will have our first Gator Gathering of the school year and we plan to meet outside around the track. A Gator Gathering is an all-school community meeting when we celebrate different successes and have a theme for the month. August’s focus will be Gator Packs and students will be recognized for their different packs. Every student and staff member at Allisonville is sorted into one of our 6 Gator Packs: Amistad, Felicidad, Jiankang, Sevasmos, Shinsetsu, and Ukulingana. We will have a Pack Dress Up Day for our Gator Gathering, so be sure to send your student in their pack color on Friday. Also, at the Gator Gathering, we will introduce an exciting reading opportunity called, One Book One School, where the whole school will be reading the same book together. Look for more information in next week’s Gazette about it!
Thank you to the PTO for providing a delicious taco bar last night for our teachers before Back to School Night. We appreciate you! The PTO’s Fall Fundraiser begins today and students will arrive home with an information packet regarding the fundraiser. This is one of PTO’s biggest fundraisers of the year and monies earned go directly back to helping teachers and supporting students. Thanks in advance for participating!

Introducing Mr. Tinker, Behaviorist
Please take a moment to think about why everyone's pictures come out dark at Batman's party… Because he didn't invite the Flash! 😉 I would like to think of my role at Allisonville as some days a professional comedian, and other days I feel like a professional athlete, but I am always serving as a role model and champion for kids! I am Sredrick Tinker, AV’s new Behaviorist. My role is to inspire our students, implement the expectations set forth by MSDWT and Allisonville Elementary, and most importantly to make an impact in their lives. I love being a part of the Gator Pack and look forward to having a safe, respectful, responsible, and fun school year. WE ARE AV!

Leadership and outdoor education opportunity for young ladies, ages 11-17
Got a preteen or teen who likes the outdoors? Want your daughter to learn some independence and responsibility? Welcome to BSA Scouting: fun with a purpose. This year’s activity schedule includes camping, canoeing, rock-climbing, orienteering, ice skating, campfire cooking and more! We normally meet at St. Luke Catholic Church on Wednesdays but are currently finding creative outdoor meeting spaces during St. Luke's renovations.
If you have any questions that you need answered before our information session, please feel free to contact our Scoutmaster, Cathy Simmons at troop171scoutmaster@gmail.com or our Outreach Coordinator, Anne Shumaker at anneshumaker@msn.com
AVPTO meeting
Mark your calendars for the first general PTO meeting on Thursday, September 2 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting and Zoom details, as well as the meeting agenda, will be available on the PTO website here: http://www.avpto.com/event/general-pto-meeting/. All parents and guardians of Allisonville students are invited to attend.
Room Parents Needed
Everybody loves a party! And Allisonville PTO needs YOU to help us plan that party!
We need a Room Parent (or two or three!) to assist each of our teachers this year. Room Parents help coordinate activities and games for classroom parties (this will hopefully not be interrupted by pandemic restrictions), organize class gifts for teachers, and occasionally communicate with other class parents as needed during the year.
If you have more than one child and would like to be room parent for both, please fill out a separate form for each teacher. Our room parent coordinator will be your contact person for all things room parent related
Thanks so much for your interest!
