The Stampede is coming!!!!

The Stampede of Giving will be happening September 24-28th. This is one of our biggest fundraisers at Cheyenne. All of the money raised goes directly into our school, it benefits our teachers and students. Wristbands will be sold during school hours and at Family Fun Night. The wristband guarantees a daily treat throughout the Stampede week. The money donated goes toward your student’s homeroom vying for the win at the end of the week. Every day with every dollar donated through wristband purchases (or additional $$ donations), your student’s classroom horse will move closer to the finish line. The classroom’s horse that crosses the finish line with the most in donations from the week wins! Volunteer sign-ups and prizes to be announced soon. Check our FB page and Cheyenne emails for more details.

These events range from career prep to website design, digital photography to robotics, and STEM animation to promotional marketing. Check us out our meetings and activities on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:30. We are looking forward to sharing our love of TSA with new members!

Band Blast

Welcome to band! We are very excited to create music with this year’s band students!

The final turn-in day for orders and money for our annual magazine/cookie dough fundraiser will be Thursday, September 6. Thank you for your support of the Cheyenne Band program and enabling us to provide musical experiences for your student. The Cheyenne band t-shirt order form and money is also due by Thursday, September 6.

CODA honor band auditions for 7th and 8th grade students will be on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Santa Fe High School. If your child would like to audition for the CODA Honor band, please contact Mrs. Mills (joelee.mills@edmondschools.net, 726-5729). Students will be given their audition time by the week of October 29. If the student is selected for the honor band, the band will be held on January 11-12, 2019, in Norman, OK. 7th and 8th grade parents be looking for an electronic sign-up form.

The 8th grade band will have their first performance on the evening of Monday, September 24, 2018 at Cheyenne Family Fun Night. The band will be performing at 6:00 pm. Call time will be 5:30 pm. Make plans to attend this fun evening.

The 8th grade band will be joining the Edmond North band for an upcoming football game on Friday, September 21, 2018. This is a great time for 8th graders to begin to make connections with their future Husky band members.

6th grade students are ready to start making music on their instruments. We know they are eager to begin their instrumental music journey.

Please encourage all band students to practice at home daily. Frequently ask them to perform something on their instrument for your family. We appreciate the support!

Students who are rhythmically skilled also tend to better plan, sequence, and coordinate actions in their daily lives.

Be a Library Volunteer

We are looking for adult volunteers to assist in the Media Center. Please contact Dana Whitmarsh, the Library Assistant, at dana.whitmarsh@edmondschools.net if you would be interested in signing up for special projects (once or twice a year) or to be a regular volunteer (weekly).

Special projects may include Book Fair set-up and clean up, working the Book Fair, assisting with author visits, and much more.

Regular volunteers (weekly) help check in and out library materials, shelve books, create bulletin board and/or display projects, and encourage the love of reading.

The mission of the Media Program is to encourage the reading habit and to foster skills that make our students good information seekers, judges, and thinkers.

Important: checking out students, lunches, & messages

You will be required to have your driver license to check your child out. Plan enough time for checkout. Calls to check out a student prior to arriving at the school are not accepted.

Lunches: If delivering lunches please make sure you have conveyed it to your child in advance. We do not deliver lunches to classrooms. Students will pick up in the office when dismissed from class. Family members are not allowed to have lunch with their child in the cafeteria. If you would like to eat with your child, you are welcome to join them in the office.

Messages: Please make arrangements with your child for transportation or other such issues in the morning before school begins. We will provide messages to students when provided before 2:00. We cannot guarantee messages will arrive to students if received after 2:00pm.

Demographic & Contact information on Parent Portal

Just a reminder....Any & All changes to your student's information need to made by the parent or guardian on the Parent Portal. This includes phone #'s, e-mail addresses, people that have permission to check your child out of school or call in case of an emergency, etc. The only change that cannot be made on the Parent Portal is a change in address. The new proof of residency must be brought to the school for an address change to be made.

Personal Devices

The implementation of school provided Chromebooks brings an end to the academic need for personal devices during the school day. With that, we will be expecting personal devices to be off and out of sight for the duration of the school day. In remaining consistent with our middle school practice, devices will be allowed before the first school bell at 7:40 and after the last bell at 2:40. We recognize that personal devices are part of the everyday world that we live in as well as our future, and know the incredible capability that today’s technology brings to our life. For young adolescents, it also presents many challenges. Recent research is now showing that middle school-aged students are spending an average of 4.5 hours a day on their personal devices. That number increases to 8 hours a day by the high school years. As educators and parents we see how many of our kids are immersed on social media platforms, gaming, mass

(sometimes hidden) communications and other varieties of content consumption. For a great many students this creates social-emotional and/or academic challenges during school, in addition to the challenges from an instructional point of view. We are seeking to increase classroom engagement and reduce outside distractions, and we appreciate your support in this transition. If you need to get an urgent message to your child, we will be happy to help in that communication from the office.
