Indian Knoll Elementary

Letter from the Principal

Happy New Year Firebirds!

We have completed two academic quarters and are already halfway through the school year. This is the time of the year when we reset instructional goals and push students to new heights. Our students are challenged and provided rigorous lessons and activities to keep them engaged and on track. Please partner with our teachers to encourage participation in our school events, activities, and challenges. Over the break we offered a “REINDEER READING CHALLENGE” and are excited about the level of student participation for a FREE ice cream!
On January 22, 2020 we will be hosting our next honor roll assembly and celebrating academic excellence with our 4th and 5th graders. In addition, on the same day, our kindergarteners will celebrate the 100th day of school, dress like senior citizens and parade throughout the school. You won’t want to miss the festivities.

Our theme of #CCSDKindnessCounts will continue into 2020 with intentional and random acts of kindness. Our PTA and teaching staff will be planning opportunities to sprinkle kindness throughout the community. Our students are provided positive feedback through Firebird Feathers, Dojo Points, House Meetings, class incentives as well as on our Social Media Sites. Our students are even recognizing staff members through the CCSD program #thanksCCSD. It is such a joy to see the entire building looking for the best in each other. I appreciate your support and partnership as we move forward into 2020 as TEAM IKES.

Counselor Connections

Mrs. Colleen DeLosh – Grades 3-5

Mrs. Lori Waycaster – Grades K-2

In guidance this semester, we will be focusing on Character Education in all grade levels. Students will be learning to identify emotions, develop and strengthen friendships, and problem solve for the future.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the MUST Ministries Toy Drive through our school program, IKES Believes in Helping Others. The needs of many Cherokee County families were met due to the generosity of our Indian Knoll families.

If you would like to donate to our food pantry, we are in need of canned protein (tuna, chicken, etc.). We are also in need of new shoes in various sizes and genders. Please turn in donations to the front office to the counselor’s attention.

If you or anyone you know is in need of resources, including food or clothing, please feel free to use this link or contact either one of us at: or

Spotlight on Kindness - Peyton Taylor

When entering the IKES Media Center, our students are always looking for that perfect piece of literature from the vast selection to enjoy! Sometimes we find it quickly and sometimes that special book eludes us! One student in Mrs. Magnes' second grade class was having that difficulty during a media center visit last month, but was quickly assisted by another student, who abandoned her own search to help a friend. Second grader, Peyton Taylor acted selfless and kind in her willingness to set aside her own needs and sacrifice her time to help a classmate who was upset. Thank you, Peyton, for being a leader in the quest to spread kindness! Your act did not go unnoticed!

Help us spread some love by sharing wonderful acts of kindness that you do or experience! Let's celebrate compassion together and inspire each other to pay it forward! Please send pictures or stories of your acts of kindness to

Spirit Rock Reservations and Painting!!

Another school year brings about opportunity for celebratory shout-outs! Our spirit rock shout-outs were outstanding last year, offering the opportunity for us to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and accomplishments! We can't wait to see all of the creativity on our spirit rock this year! See below for all of the details.

Spirit Rock Sign-up:

In an effort to make spirit rock sign up as smooth a process as possible, we have changed the process slightly this year. Sign-up dates for your special event are listed below:

  • August to October dates: released July 26th @ 7pm
  • November to February dates: released October 10th @7pm
  • March to May dates: released February 10th @ 7pm

**Payment will be required at the time of sign up in order to complete your reservation.

Spirit Rock Painting:

We have had several parents and/ or family members inquire about hiring someone to paint the spirit rock for their special event. We want to make this a little easier by listing some of those individuals who offer these services on the Spirit Rock FAQ tab on the IKES PTA website, including: Tay's Paints and Painted Pebbles. We have confirmed that Art by Amanda is no longer offering painting services, but Petit Artist in Woodstock will now offer these services. We will be updating the website shortly with this new information. Please click on the Spirit Rock FAQ tab here to find links to their Facebook pages.

**Please remember that these services are not affiliated with IKES PTA and will require a separate, additional payment to the artist. Before you book any paint services, please be sure you have reserved and paid your rock reservation with IKES PTA.

If you have any questions regarding spirit rock, please contact Jackie at
