In Science, we learned about habitats and parts of our environment.
In Social Studies, students are learning about maps and globes, specifically continents and oceans.
In Math, we are continuing to learn how to solve with multiple strategies. Students are encouraged to use multiple strategies when adding and subtracting up to 1,000.
Students will have any Saturday Academy this week featuring Ms. Chavez as this week's teacher.
Learning can be fun. How can you help from home?
Science:
Social Studies:
Have your son/daughter understand how the branches of government help our community, state, and national government through services such as police department, schools, libraries, etc. We can elect government leaders to represent our values and beliefs.
Math
When going to stores, have your son/daughter help you pay either at the cashier or check out with money. You can also practice addition and subtraction fluency up to 10, doubles, or one more or one less.
A family game night is also a fun and exciting way of learning math. You can play Monopoly, Life, Dominoes, or even with a deck of cards and practice addition and subtraction.
You can have them practice how to add up to 999.
Reading
Another thing you can do at home is after watching a movie, show or even reading a book, you can ask your child:
- Who is the character? Describe the character.
- What is the setting (where the story takes place)?
- What is the plot (beginning, middle, end)? Retell the events that happen in the story.
Writing/Spelling:
Have your son/daughter help you make a list of groceries that are needed to be purchased. Instead of telling them how to spell the items, have him/her sound out each letter sound when saying the word.
For example milk, /m/ /i/ /l/ /k/. I know that the letter 'm' makes the /m/ sound. The letter 'i' makes the /i/ sound. The letter 'l' makes the /l/ sound, and the 'k' makes the /k/ sound. So milk is spelled m - i - l - k.
Mission and Vision Statements
Nominations Letters for GT Identifications have been received.
The last day to have turned in the parent nomination was this past Wednesday. We, as teachers, also recommended some of our students that exhibit these characteristics. There is a three step process with gifted and talented program. The next step is the screening process. Now, students who have been nominated will have the opportunity to take a series of assessments to help identify if they are eligible to be part of the G/T program. Please talk with your child to inform them of the series of lengthy assessments (that will be happening in the next couple of weeks), so that they will be able to endure and score to their best of their abilities.
