On Monday, I am going to be sending home a math packet for you do with your child during the month of January. This will give you a better idea of the common core math practices that we are implementing. I think you will be amazed at how the children solve the problems. Enjoy! Be sure to return the packet at the end of the month for 3 drops in the bucket.

Important Notes:

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Break. My trip was great, I had a white Christmas and had quite an adventure getting home. Due to fog in London I had to overnight there. I was on a line from 2pm till 10:30pm trying to rebook. It was a very long day!! Thank you so much for all the generous gifts. I sent each child a thank you post card so hopefully they will arrive soon.

-In Language Arts we are reading about and discussing creativity. So, on Friday each student will create an individual Recycled Creation. Please send in clean boxes, string, cans, bottles, (make sure they are washed and no glass),buttons etc., anything that is lying around your house. We will turn junk into masterpieces! We will display our finished product in the Media Center. Happy hunting!

- The discovery lab is collecting magazines and scrabble pieces for a lunchtime activity. So this is a good time to clean out.

-After School Enrichment

The classes are starting January 12th so be sure to sign up. For more information go to http://sbsd.net/cdc . There are great classes that the children love attending. It’s also a good way to avoid the after school traffic while providing your child a fun learning and social experience.

Before you know it Valentine’s Day will be here. Soon I will be sending home a class list. I encourage the children to make their own cards!

Here are a couple guidelines:

-If your child wants to participate, he/she must have a valentine for everyone in the class, not just some of the children.

-Your child must write the names on the outside of each envelope.

-Making valentines cards is a fun craft and the children really enjoy receiving homemade cards better than the store bought ones. So please start making valentine cards with your child. We will talk about how to create cards, so your child should have some ideas. (If you already bought them, that’s ok. It’s just a suggestion.)

-It is fine if you would like to attach a little candy treat however, because of our focus on heath, a pencil or small toy would be better but not required.

Solana Santa Fe is now offering before school for $8. You must do a one time registration with CDC

Upcoming Events:

-January 19th – Martin Luther Kind Holiday – No School

- MAP Testing January 26 reading, January 30 math

- School Wide Jogathon at lunchtime on Jan. 28th- more information to come

Thank You for all your support!
