What is a RNA virus?

Introduction

A RNA virus is something that stores its genetic information as RNA and diseases store their information as DNA. This type of virus is the cause of three major infections which are influenza, Rhinovirus, and gastroenteritis.

Rhinovirus

The Rhinovirus is also known as the "common cold". When someone has contracted the Rhinovirus infection, they have the tendency to have runny noses, sore throat, and sneezing. It can also cause a mild fever, ear infections, and sinus infection. The main issue with this virus is that it appears frequently throughout the four seasons of the year. There are several ways to prevent or cure yourself from getting Rhinovirus, which are washing hands regularly, sanitize objects within your home, use a tissue once and throw it away, and to cover mouth when you sneeze or cough.

Gastroenteritis

Gastroenteritis is also known as the stomach flu. Even though the name includes "flu" the true reason to why this happens is because the intestines and stomach becomes inflamed and irritated. When this happens, this causes vomiting, diarrhea, a fever, stomach pain, and fatigue. The best way to cure or prevent Gastroenteritis is to drink more fluids like water, sodas and juice. Also, if you already have gastroenteritis and on a restricted diet, as the symptoms of the virus goes down, a person can go back to their regular diet.

Influenza (flu)

This infection is viral and can attack your respiratory system which is your nose, throat, and lungs. This virus can be extremely dangerous for young children, the elderly, pregnant women, people with weak immune system, and people with chronic illness. Some of the symptoms for the "flu" are fevers over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, a dry cough, nasal congestion, the chills, and sore muscles. This virus can be treated by washing your hands properly and cleaning your objects well. Influenza is caused by air droplets when someone sneezes and cough from an contaminated person.
