Rochester Full Service Community Schools in the News
RPS Full Service Community Schools in the Spotlight
The Full Service Community School model is one that is implemented at four RPS schools--Gage Elementary, Riverside Elementary, the ALC and John Marshall high schools. "Community schools are public schools that partner with families and community organizations to provide well-rounded educational opportunities and supports for students' school success," (Community Schools Playbook).
The news segments focused on the resource rooms as one of the supports that is embedded at the sites for our students. Community Schools strive to address other barriers to academic success beyond basic needs by partnering closely with community organizations, businesses, and families to provide expanded opportunities for students.

Services provided are similar to express care and are confidential, holistic, and student-centered. Services provided on-site are at no cost to students and families.
The clinic is open on Mon, Tues, Wed from 8:00am-12:00pm and Thursday from 8:00am-5:00pm. Contact Kris Nelson at krnelson1@rochester.k12.mn.us with any questions.
J-Term Classes Offer New Opportunities
Students at RALC had the opportunity to participate in non-traditional learning opportunities during a 3-day "J-Term" last week with a focus on developing and growing our RPS Graduate Profile skills.
Cell Phone Photography was just one of the many courses students could participate in. Students learned how to use different techniques including water, reflection, negative space, lines, filters, etc. to create more dramatic or effective photos. Their finished work is breathtaking!
February After School Programming in Cafe Connect
After school programming has expanded! We now have additional transportation options for students needing a ride home. New activities include self-defense classes and Exercisabilities programming.
This program is partially funded with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) using federal funding, CFDA 84.287, 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This program does not necessarily represent the policy of the federal Department of Education or MDE and you should not assume endorsement by the federal or state government.
RALC Student Work Showcased at Rochester Public Library
Students at Rochester ALC had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with a local artist through an Artist in Residence during Quarter 2. Their focus was on doll-making and "Frankenstuffies". Stop by the Rochester Public Library to see their incredible work on display!
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation for the arts and cultural heritage fund.
