Fantastic First Week!

Our first week was busy and fun. I am truly enjoying your children - what a fun group! We spent last week getting to know each other a little better, learning our way around the school from the first grade perspective, and working to create our "routines".

Back To School Night

I hope to see all of the parents at the Back To School Night presentation on Wednesday, September 2 from 5:30-6:45 p.m.. This is an evening where I give an overview of the curriculum, activities, expectations, and procedures for our big year in first grade. This event is for parents only.

Next Week's Curriculum Focus-

Essential Question: Who are the main characters in the story, and where does the story take place? (This is a good question to ask when reading at home.)

High Frequency words: jump, not, up
Phonemic Awareness: short a
Vocabulary Words: cheerful, genuine, interest, prefer, unique
Comprehension Skill:

Writing Trait: ideas

Writing Genre: personal narrative

Spelling Words and Dictation Sentences:

*Friday Assembly - Friday, September 4 at 8:35 in the amphitheater

*Volunteer Coffee - Wednesday, September 9 at 8:45 a.m. in the Media Center

(Anyone wishing to volunteer in our class is encouraged to attend this meeting.)

*Ice Cream Social - Friday, September 11 from 5-7 p.m.

Tips for First Grade

*LABEL EVERYTHING! (Jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.)

*Send a small snack every day.

*Pick a spot to meet after school and make sure that your child and I both know where that spot is.
