Please remind your students that we conduct random searches each week in our school. Students are not allowed to have medication, weapons, or items that look like weapons in their backpacks. Examples of prohibited items, but not limited to: fishing knives, fishing hooks, Orbeez Gel Ball Blaster Guns, Tylenol and Motrin. Also, please see the link below of the popular social media challenge that negatively impacted our school last week.
FSA Writing
Students will take the FSA Writing this week. Our 6th graders will take the paper-based writing assessment and our 7th and 8th graders will take a computer-based writing assessment.
Please see grade level parent letters below. Also, the school will have a modified bell schedule on these testing days.

Taylor Banks won the Middle School Division Grades 5-8 with her PSA on spoiled foods. Victoria Bultman won the Classmate's Choice Award after her video was voted the favorite amongst her CTE/TV Production peers.

Summer Boost Program
Our students will have a new learning opportunity during this summer. Duval County Public Schools and Kids Hope Alliance invite you to apply for Summer Boost: a six-week academic remediation and enrichment program.
This summer school program will be available at six select middle schools. Applications will be open for DCPS students in 5th through 7th grade. Current 5th graders will apply to the middle school program using a separate registration link. Current 8th grade students are only eligible for credit recovery and should not use the Summer Boost link.
Our Summer Boost program will take place June 13 through July 22. The program will be from Monday through Friday from 9:30 am– 4:15 pm. The link to apply for Summer Boost program will go home today. All registration must take place electronically, and you can visit your child’s school for assistance if needed. The deadline to apply is April 29th. Seats are limited, and you will be notified if your child has been accepted to the program by May 23rd.
Flyers will be sent home on Monday with your child for more information.

26th Annual National Student Poetry Contest
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are selected in each of four divisions (Division 1 - Grades 3-5, Division 2 - Grades 6-7, Division 3 - Grades 8-9, and Division 4 - Grades 10-12). Each winner will receive a cash prize and Certificate of Achievement. The writer who places first overall receives the Editor's Choice Award, and a $500.00 cash Grand Prize. Deadline is April 30th.
Stop the Bullying Campaign
The Len Mattiace Foundation is partnering with Duval County Public Schools for a Stop the Bullying Campaign! The LMF will be awarding TWO $2,000 AWARDS to middle school students who creatively express their thoughts on bullying and how to prevent it in their own unique way (song, video, dance, drawing etc.). The submissions should demonstrate kindness, compassion and/or inclusion. The campaign banners and flyers will be delivered to all middle schools in the upcoming weeks to help promote the competition scheduled for February 7 - April 20.
