where they were originated.

English Mastiffs were originated in England. When the Romans invaded Britain they brought the dogs back to Italy and used them for many things such using them to guard the property and prisoners. The Mastiff is one of the most ancient types of Dog breeds. their ancestor, the molossus, was known 5,000 years ago. Then, he was a ferocious war dog, very different from the benevolent behemoth that he is today. He makes a fine companion for anyone who can accommodate his great size and doesn't mind a little drool slung here and there.

One thing that is interesting is there size. English Mastiffs is a breed of very large dogs that have perhaps descended from the ancient Alaunt and Pugnaces Britanniae, with an input from the Alpine Mastiff in the 19th century. Many people call English Mastiffs, The Gentle Giants. People call them the Gentle Giants because they look harmful but really many of them are very loving and kind. English Mastiffs like to run around outside in big spaces.
