5:45 - 5th grade students report to their homerooms; parents go to the gym


6:00 - 6:30 5th grade music program


6:30 - 8:00 Curriculum, Cookies and Cocoa - start in your teacher's room and then go to others in your hallway. End with a delicious cookie & cup of hot cocoa.

*Parents will not be let down the halls until 6:30.

HISD School Board Policy Updates

In regards to tobacco products & e-cigarettes:

"The District prohibits smoking and the use of tobacco products and e-cigarettes on District property, in District vehicles, or at school-related activities."


In regards to weapons (including new law pertaining to open carry):

"The District prohibits the unlawful use, possession, or display of any firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon, as defined at FNCG, on all District property at all times. No violation of this policy occurs when the use, possession, or display of an otherwise prohibited weapon takes place as part of a District-approved activity supervised by proper authorities."

Library Dates


Jan. 5-15: Lessons on using online access to research databases, Tumblebooks and more. Ask your child to show you how!


Jan. 18-29: Book Talks on series books in our library! Maybe your child will find a new series to read!


Jan. 22: Bluebonnet Voting Breakfast-Those students who have read 5 or more Bluebonnet books will join other elementary students in the state of Texas to vote for their favorite. Mrs. Whittle and Mrs. Dulaney will serve up pancakes with tons of topping choices. 5 must be read and verified by Mrs. Dulaney no later than Thursday, Jan. 21.


Feb. 26, Friday: Last day to earn points for AR Big Event


Mar. 3, Thursday: AR Big Event-Root Beer Floats and Recess (It would be great to have parents come help scoop ice cream-call Mrs. Dulaney at 903-668-5990 ext. 2554 or 2566 if you can volunteer.)

Incentives for the 9 Weeks

Attendance

Every Friday the homeroom with the highest attendance gets extra recess.

End of the 9 weeks every homeroom with 97% participates in a kickball tournament.

End of the 9 weeks the homeroom with the highest attendance gets a pizza party.


Grades

Splash Kingdom is offering a FREE ticket to every student that makes 90+ in all classes.


Reading

Jan. 22 - Bluebonnet voting for students who have read at least 5 TX Bluebonnet books
