REFLECTIONS FROM YOUR PTSA
A LOOK BACK:
- The First Grade Economics Fair was an excellent learning opportunity for our 1st graders to take quarters they earned at home during the week and choose to keep, donate or spend them. Donations from the students go directly to the PTSA Mitten Fund that helps stock our clothing closet for the winter months. Our children were very generous in their donations and also were able to spend money on some fun trinkets and treats.
- BJ's membership drive raised over $300 for the PTSA. Thanks to everyone who renewed their existing membership or signed up for a new membership!
- Meeting Minutes from previous months now available: September October November December
- Treasurer Report for November 1, 2017 through January 1, 2018 available here.
A WORD OF THANKS:
- Our deep appreciation goes to The Spot and to Reliant Community Federal Credit Union for their generous donation of 100 brand-new pairs of sneakers to the PES.
LOOKING AHEAD:
- NY State PTA is calling for a $2 Billion investment in our children and needs your support to make this a reality for school children across NY State. Click here for a link that breaks down the proposed spending and explains where the NY PTA stands. If you agree that this investment is necessary to positively impact our children's education, please sign this petition to show your support.
- We are planning multiple Primary/Elementary level family fun nights & dances for the spring. Dates & details TBA. If you would be interested in assisting with these events, please email us.
- We are continuing a strong digital presence this year using online membership enrollment, eNewsletters, Sign-Up Genius, Twitter and Facebook. Follow us @CanandaiguaPTSA and please share our information with your friends!
HONESTY is this month's character trait at the PES.

Nerf Ninja Wars
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS!
Need an evening to yourself or romantic getaway with your spouse? Want a cheaper alternative to the babysitter? Allow your child to be our guest at Eastside Martial Arts for a fun-filled evening of Nerf Wars!
EMA will now be hosting "Nerf Ninjas" on the 2nd Friday or 2nd Saturday of EACH MONTH from 6-9pm.
Our next battle will be Saturday, February 10th and will feature GLOW IN THE DARK wars, using our very own glow-in-the-dark ammunition! Our subsequent battle on Friday, March 9th will feature NINJA WARRIOR CAGE FIGHTING with professionally crafted (padded safely with foam) Martial Arts weapons!
Children and teens (ages 5-14) will be divided into three age appropriate groups (5-8yr olds, 9-11yr olds and 12-14yr olds) to battle on three uniquely different courses with various obstacles to manuever through and hide behind. Our facility is over 6,000 sq ft, all safely matted for added protection.
We provide all ammunition, using soft tipped Nerf N-Strike Elite Series darts and Nerf Rival soft foam balls. We have a limited supply of Nerf Rival Artemis XVII-3000 guns and Nerf Doomlands The Judge guns to rent for $5 or Nerf N-Strike Elite Strong-arm Blasters to rent for $2, as well as Tactical Vest Jackets (to hold ammunition) for $3. Protective eyewear must be worn by all participants and may be purchased for an additional $2.
The cost for the evening is $20/child or $40 max per family. EMA members pay $15/child or $30 max per family. Friends of EMA members also pay $15/child or $30 max per family. Pizza and bottled water are included at no additional cost!

Community Reading Partnership
Help spread literacy in our community! A Volunteer Bookshelf Supervisor is needed by the Community Reading Partnership to oversee “Guardian” volunteers who stock 15 to 20 active Little Red Bookshelves in the Canandaigua area with free books.
This person should be reasonably familiar with children’s books and able to oversee the processing of books donated at locations in Canandaigua schools. The Bookshelf Supervisor sits on the Community Reading Partnership Board which meets monthly at the library.
To express interest, contact CRP President Mary Ferris, c/o Wood Library, 134 North Main St. Canandaigua, NY 14424 or email CRP at communityreadingpart@gmail.com
