UOI Field Trip - Arabic Restaurant
Student will be taken to ZAATAR Mediterranean Cuisine where they will practice both ordering their favorite Arabic dish, and cultural behaviors when eating at a restaurant.
Each student is expected to be able to read and comprehend a menu, and order food in Arabic. In addition, students will be able to:
- Ask and answers questions about food, meals, and a restaurant experience.
- Know the different fruits and vegetables
- Correctly use the verbs: to eat أكل , to drink شرب, to serve, to share شارك, to order طلب, and to present/ offer قدم
- Correctly use the courtesy expressions Min FaDlak من فضلك , Law Samaht لو سمحت , Shukran شكرا AfWan عفواً, TafaDhal, اهلاً وسهلاًAhlan Wa Sahlan,
- Correctly use the verb to want
What Are We Learning This Unit?
Math
- I can understand that one way to measure plane shapes is by the area they have.
- I can understand that a "unit square" is a square with side lengths of 1 unit and it is used to measure the area of plane shapes.
- I can cover a plane shape with square units to measure its area.
- I can measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft).
- I can understand area by thinking about multiplication and addition.

Shark Bait will also be reading sections of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid in Arabic and create a title acrostic in which students will write the title of the book on each side of the paper. For each letter in the title, students are to construct a sentence that begins with that letter and tell something significant about the story.

Social Studies

Qur'an
Students will learn:
- Read and memorize Surat Al-Burooj with fluency and Tajweed.
- Read Surat Al-Kahf with fluency and Tajweed.
- Know the general meaning of Surat Al-Burooj
- Recognize the Arabic sounds (Qalqalah, Shaddah).
- Laam Sakinah rules.
- Write this Surah after the memorization.
Islamic Studies
- They will study the various different rights of Allah's creation such as
- Rights of Parents
- Rights of Neighbors
- Rights on the environment
- Rights of Animals
- Rights of their body
- Etc
They will design graphic organizers which show an understanding for the relationship between rights and responsibilities and the effect of these rights on society
Art
Students will be introduced to some principles of graphic design illustration, they will be practicing the use of lettering and create original fonts and design letters and use mixed media techniques to design quotes. Students will also decorate canvas totes and sell it on Market Day.
