A Message from Mr. Anderson
Well, this is it! The end of the first marking period and parents should expect that their child brings home his/her report card this Friday! The only instance in which a child may not have their report card is if the teacher is still assessing the student for their report card indicators, in that case, the teacher should be openly communicating with parents so that they have the report card by parent teacher conferences.
Below is a video from the most recent Town Hall meeting last week in which information regarding new health screening and protocols were shared along with information regarding how the school will be approaching fully remote learning if something were to occur and we had to close the school building for a period of time. The GREAT news is, we have made it through an entire marking period without any extended school building closures and our health and safety protocols appear to be working!
Please enjoy this parent update and check out some of the really cool pictures of our 2nd & 6th grade students and teachers in action! Also, make sure to review the Q&A document from the parent Town Hall meeting along with the updates from or Health Office!
Please also remember that this Wednesday is Veterans Day! There will be no school for students. This would be an awesome time to reach out to a veteran or active military and say thank you!

Q & A From the Parent Town Hall Meeting
Below are the questions that were asked from the survey that was provided. Below each question is the best answer based on the information we know now.
According to our current flow chart (Attached in this Panthergram), the answer is "no", your child would still be able to attend school. BUT, if a parent provided paperwork related to their quarantine the school would honor the student to be fully-remote at parent choice for that period of time.
Are there any stipulations as to when the school could go back to 5 days a week? Seems like all the state gives is information on, why the schools would have to close.
This is hard to answer, the school has to go by the current Department of Health guidelines, if we can't meet those guidelines with all students in attendance, then we can't have all students physically at school. The Department of Health would need to relax their regulations for CS to be able to do that.
If you don't have a vehicle how would you get your childs breakfast and lunch?
Please contact the school directly if you are in hardship and we will do our best to help parents out as much as we can.
Will the 20% testing be faculty and students, or just faculty?
The current regulations state that if the school was in a "Yellow" zone, then any person (faculty or student) would have to be tested randomly at 20% per week.
Is there any other situation other than the orange/ red zones that would trigger virtual learning? I know this is hard to anticipate but I'm thinking about if particular personnel test positive or a small cluster in a class or something along those lines.
The District's position is to keep the school open as much as we safely can. So, if the District is able to have a class or grade level go remote learning through contact tracing we would do that before shutting the entire building down. The only other instance would most likely be an inability to staff the building due to a high enough percentage of our workforce being unable to go to work.
Some local districts are doing 100% synchronous instruction on remote days, even for primary students. Have we had any conversations with other districts to learn from them - best practices, tips and tricks, ways to shorten our own learning curve?
We are in contact with are principals, superintendents, and also some of our faculty that have students attending other Districts too.
Isn't it putting Children at Risk by not closing schools when part of the district is in the yellow zone?
The yellow zone is designated as a "buffer" to other more intense zones of infection. The regulations state the District only has to go to 20% testing for physical attendance at school if the building itself falls into a yellow zone. Nonetheless, these are challenging decisions to make and the administrative team along with consultation with the Health Department drives all of our decisions.
Since it seems that transmission at school is basically non-existent, is there any talk of lobbying against these harsh restrictions that the governor is placing on our kids and schools?
This is a true statement, to this point we do not have an instance in which we have seen COVID spread within the school building itself. This information is shared with the Health Department every time there is a positive case and contact tracing is completed. The District to this point has not taken a formal stance one way or the other regarding lobbying a position.
Will our students be penalized if they cannot attend every zoom meeting if we go to all virtual learning?
Currently, there would not be a "penalty" of missing a Zoom meeting. The District is discussing making Zoom meetings part of the attendance expectations of a student. If that should occur, then the penalty would be being marked absent from school. OVERALL, the most important thing is that students are completing their school work and being actively involved in their education whether they are physically at school or not.
INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
Mrs. Sears, Elementary School Counselor
With expectations for students to complete school work at home during this time in the hybrid model it can be a struggle for parents to get kids to engage in all of their work. This can then lead to unrest in the home and power struggles with your child. The best way to get your child to complete their work (and chores at home!) is to void power struggles and develop routines and positive habits. The attached article below has some great information on how to avoid power struggles and have a more "team" family approach!

Message from the Health Office
"Health Department Updates
Last week, C-S was notified of an update to the school guidelines regarding students or staff being deemed positive due to lack of follow up. If a student or staff develops any of the COVID-19 symptoms, they must follow up with a healthcare provider and have a scheduled appointment for a visit or a COVID-19 test within 48 hours. The school health office must also be informed of that follow up within 48 hours.
The Health Department assured us that this does not mean that the ill child or staff person must have seen the doctor in 48 hours. However, they are required to have a confirmed appointment date for follow up that can be shared with the school. If the school is not provided follow up information within 48 hours of the child becoming ill, the school is required to report the child to Steuben County Public Health and they will be deemed positive for COVID-19. The Health Department will investigate and may place the ill child and any of their close contacts under a mandatory quarantine at that time.
As always, our school nurses will support you by providing you the information you need to ensure you have the proper follow up should your child become ill. They also have a system in place for reminder calls to follow up with families two days after they have reported their child as exhibiting any of the COVID-19 symptoms. We have included some guidance slides in this SMORE below. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the Health Office, your school’s Principal, or Mrs. Melody DeCamp (Health Office Administrator) if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Melody DeCamp

School Info App - Communicating with your child's teacher(s)
How to Get messages from your child's teachers: One important way to get messages from your child's teacher and to make sure that you are getting updates from the school is to go to "My Alerts". Once in "my alerts" make sure that "Enable Push Notifications" is turned on and that all of the buttons are turned "on".
Next... look at the bottom of the screen, you will see the picture of a bell next two an icon of two people. Click on the icon of the 2 people. This will then bring up teachers names along with icons to turn on notifications. Search out your child's teacher(s) and turn on those notifications.
If you would like to send your child a message, go back to the main screen and click "conversations" this then works just like text messaging on your smart phone. Make sure to put a title to the message so you know who you are sending it to when you go back to the app.
New Things!
- The student absence and Tech Help Forms are now in a button on the first page of the app! Just click and you can fill everything out on your smartphone!
A word of advice - Always check and make sure when you are in the app that you are in the correct school. Make sure that it is the Campbell Savona Elementary school:)
