M. H. Herlong
M. H. Herlong grew up in Saluda, SC. She attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and majored in English and studied fiction writing. Later she earned her Masters in English and a Law degree from the University of Virginia. She has lived her adult life in Florida, Virginia, and New Orleans. It is from living in New Orleans and experiencing Hurricane Katrina that she gained the material that was formed into the book Buddy.
A Heart-warming Tale
This is the story of a boy, Lil' T, and his three-legged dog, Buddy. The two are separated because of Hurricane Katrina. When Lil' T's family returns to the city in the aftermath of the storm, they find families trying to rebuild their lives. Through it all, Lil' T searches for his beloved dog. Will they find each other and be able to put their lives back together?
Books for Sale
Please encourage your students to bring their personal copies of Buddy to be signed. I have put copies of a flier in your boxes to send home with the students regarding buying a paperback copy of her book if they do not yet own one. Please distribute those Friday. There will copies of the book for sale that day for those who wish to purchase but did not turn in their money on Monday. All books will cost $8.50.
I hope that you all have had the opportunity to share Herlong's book with your class. I know that many of you are currently reading Buddy aloud. There will be a question and answer time with the students after she talks, so if you'd like to help your students brainstorm questions to ask her, that might be a good idea. I hope that you and your students enjoy Mrs. Herlong's visit!
