Attendance Corner - Everything you need to know!!
A quick review of attendance policies:
What is considered an excused absence?
· Student Medical appointments (verified with a note)
· Illness/injury (doctor's note required after 3rd day)
· Death in immediate family/bereavement
· Prearranged Short Term Independent Study
· Health quarantine
What is considered an unexcused absence?
Any absence for a personal reason is considered UNEXCUSED. Examples include:
· Out of town/Travel (EXCEPT when a STIS contract is pre-arranged)
· Family emergency
· Overslept
· Car trouble/no ride
· Snow/icy roads/weather (UNLESS designated as a snow day by the school district)
· parent has an appointment
· student refusing to go to school
· no reason was given
Attendance letters are generated after a student misses five days for any reason. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year. Research shows that chronic absenteeism has a significant detrimental effect on student achievement. Any time your student is absent, we request that you call or email our office to clear the absence.
While there may be times when your student is absent for an “unexcused” reason, we would hope that you would still let us know why your student is missing school. Our office logs attendance notes so teachers can reference why students are absent. Our school staff aims to maintain clear communication with parents so that our students can have optimal success in the classroom.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns and please continue to call or email our office to clear any absences!

Campaign Launch: Fighting Fentanyl in EDC!!!
El Dorado COPE launched a Public Awareness Campaign last week to increase community awareness of the rise of fentanyl substance use and fentanyl-related overdoses locally, statewide, and nationally.
The Fighting Fentanyl in EDC campaign provides the EDC community with easily-accessible information regarding fentanyl, substance use disorders, and how to respond when someone overdoses. El Dorado COPE has compiled information regarding the signs of an overdose, testing for fentanyl, and knowing your rights. The campaign website page also acts as a directory of SUD-related services in El Dorado County and provides agency information for SUD treatment, MAT treatment, free Narcan distribution sites, and harm reduction services.
Please join us in promoting this important new resource. We have designed and created a handful of materials to share with our community partners. The Fighting Fentanyl campaign features:
· a ready-to-print informational brochure
· 3 ready-to-print wallet cards that highlights the campaign and specific information regarding SUDs
· and 4 ready-to-post social media graphic sets that promote sections of the campaign
**Campaign materials are currently being translated into Spanish and will be released to the public within the next couple of weeks.
The campaign and campaign materials can be found and downloaded via the website page https://www.eldoradocope.org/fightingfentanyl. The desktop and mobile version of the campaign is live. For best viewing on a desktop use a Google Chrome web browser. For best at-home printing, print from a web browser.
Thank you for joining us in our effort to make these resources widely available in our communities. Your partnership is invaluable to us.

ACF Launching Survey to Hear from Parents, Caregivers, and Young People
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is launching a survey to hear directly from parents, caregivers, and young people ages 13-24.
ACF is committed to improving the behavioral health (mental health and substance use) of children, youth, individuals, and families. The goal of this survey is to hear directly from parents, caregivers, and young people to inform the development of several behavioral health-related activities and resources for young adults and families.
We look forward to continuing to develop resources with and for young people, parents, and caregivers, and we want to ensure we capture a diverse set of perspectives. Please let parents, caregivers, and young adults in your program know about this great feedback opportunity and share the link below. The survey is available in both English and Spanish.
