Tiger Family Newsletter Sept 14-20
All the important deets to stay in the know!
May It Be of Benefit
Hello Families,
Change continues to be the theme of the 20/21 school year. Between last weekend's newsletter and today, the district's plan to bring students back to campus has been further refined. As of the writing of this newsletter, we are now bringing back all students, K-8 on a minimum day schedule Monday through Friday. We also are offering families a choice between Distance Learning and in-person instruction. Students who choose DL will be reassigned to a Distance Learning teacher (most likely a different teacher than they currently have), and the movement of students out of physical classes will require some students to change teachers (this will only affect one kindergarten class and our 1st and 2nd combination class on the SM campus). If your child's classroom placement is being affected by the changes to our program, I will be calling you early next week. Our ACE program will run but will have a smaller capacity than in the past due to staffing limitations. If you signed up for ACE last spring, you will be contacted this week by the ACE office to confirm your spot. Here are some things to keep in mind for Monday, 9/21 when students return to campus:
- We will be on a minimum day schedule every day
- 4th and 5th grades start at 7:40 and K-3rd grades start at 7:50
- All students release between 12:30 and 12:45 *
- *I say "between 12:30-12:45" because we will need to stagger release time so that we don't have 300 students clustered together waiting for their parents.
- Kindergarten will release first starting at 12:30 and if your kinder has older siblings, they will be released to wait with the kinder student.
- ALL students must wear a mask when arriving and dismissing or when walking in hallways.
- 3rd-grade - 5th-grade students must wear a mask throughout the day except when eating or drinking (medical exceptions notwithstanding).
- Students will go directly to their class establishing a cohort with whom they will remain throughout the day. This means they will not be able to come to school earlier than the start of school (7:40) as they cannot comingle on the playground or in the cafe for breakfast.
- It will be important to plan arrival time close to the start of school. We will open the gates/office doors at 7:35 and will not allow students to be dropped off prior to 7:35.
- There will be 3 points of entry to the campus (the gate by the cafe, the office doors, and the gate by the kindergarten playground). These points will be supervised by a staff member who will remind students to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
- Parents are responsible for taking their child's temperature and doing a wellness screening each morning. Please keep students home if they exhibit any signs of illness and call the office to clear their absence.
- Breakfast will be served "sack/to go" style and will come home with your child at the end of the day for the next day. Students will need to order their breakfast when the teacher takes roll and lunch count daily.
- We are not able to allow parents on campus at arrival or dismissal time. However, we will allow incoming kindergarten parents to accompany their children during the first couple of days of return to campus to help them feel comfortable. Parents must wear a mask at all times on campus.
- Your child(ren)'s teacher will let you know the location where you chid(ren) will be picked up. We will be spreading out across the campus and using the south parking lot (bus drive-through) for our SDC classes and 4th and 5th-grades. Kinder-3rd grades will be picked up in the north/gym parking lot. Parents will pick up multiple students/siblings at the location of the youngest child's class. Again, watch for communication from your child's teacher for your specific location for pick up.
- Bus service will NOT space children 3 or 6 feet apart, so if you choose to use bus transportation, students must wear masks at all times on the bus and use hand sanitizer when getting on the bus.
- Please have students bring their Chromebooks and curriculum back with them to school on the 21st. They will need these resources with them starting that first day.
Oh my! This is SO much information. Please don't get overwhelmed. Understand that we are trying to think through many details in a situation that we have never experienced before, so we will be trying many processes that may need to be refined. Please be patient. I welcome your input and ideas, and I am glad to spend time talking through your concerns and questions. Call us at 224-4180 M-F 7:30-4 pm or email me at sgold@eesd.net

ACE Tutoring Program
We are here to help support you and your students during these unpredictable times. We will be providing an after school support program to help assist students here at Shasta Meadows. Students should bring their Chromebook, school supplies, and assignments to work on for about 45 minutes. We will provide support and a quiet, cool environment. We will also be offering 45 minutes of enrichment time for students during these sessions. We will be hosting daily sessions starting September the 8th. Please sign up and we will let you know if other spaces are available in the future. There will be a 30-minute gap between sessions so all high contact areas can be cleaned to ensure students' safety. Students and staff will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. If your student is in 2nd-grade or below they will not be required to wear a mask, but it is strongly requested. Please fill out one form for every child you would like to attend. Thank you!
