Roosevelt Wildcat Weekly
August 27, 2021 Information for our Families
Greetings Wildcat Families,
Happy Friday! Thanks for another wonderful week! Our students are continuing to demonstrate responsibility and respect as they are getting to know their teachers and their classes in this new school year. Administration and counseling spent time in Social Studies classes this past week reviewing our RMS rules and policies so that all students are aware of what we expect from our Wildcats. They also shared information about ways to get involved in extracurricular activities and clubs so that our students can make the most out of their middle school experience. All students in every class were so attentive and respectful!
Thank you all for your efforts this week in supporting our campus supervisors and administration as we continue to improve the traffic flow. We're definitely finding a better rhythm, and we appreciate your help and consideration of others! We have many important announcements in this week's Wildcat Weekly. Please read through updates about the following:
- Back-to-School Night Info
- SSC and ELAC Nominations
- Picture Day Info
- Health and Safety Update
- PTA Update and 1st Dine-Out
- and more...
Have a great week!
Go, Wildcats!

Health and Safety Update
As a school community, we need your help to ensure that we can safely keep students in school and minimize the number of quarantines we might need. If there is a family that is waiting on the results of COVID tests, please keep your student home until the results come in. If your student is not feeling well, please don't send them to school.
We will include a Health and Safety Update in each RMS Wildcat Weekly and we will notify you in this update if there have been any positive cases on campus. This week, we did not have any positive cases on campus. If you would like to check for a notification on a daily basis, please refer to the VUSD COVID-19 Case Dashboard. The Dashboard is updated by 7:00 pm daily.
A few other reminders about protocols:
If there is a student or adult who was a “Close Contact” of a person who is identified as Covid+ then we will send a notice to families in those classes about being exposed to a person who is a close contact of a Covid+ person.
If there is an active case of Covid, on campus, and your student was identified as being a Close Contact (defined as within 6' proximity for a cumulative 15 minutes in 24 hours) then you will be notified and your child will be Quarantined. The exception is if your child has been fully vaccinated (defined as 2 weeks post-final vaccination). Proof must be provided in this case.
If your child is quarantined, then they will receive support/connection with a VUSD Learning Support Teacher, via Zoom and email.
If your child is quarantined, they are to follow along in Canvas for their coursework.
If your child is fully vaccinated, they are NOT required to Quarantine at this time.
In the last VUSD Community Update, Dr. Doyle included a very important Health and Safety Call to Action for Parents:
Action #1: Notify your school immediately if your child or any member of your household becomes ill with COVID-19.
Action #2: Keep your child home from school if they have ANY of the symptoms listed on the decision tree guidelines (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea).
Action #3: Keep your child home from school if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. They should NOT return to in-person learning until given a return date by our nursing staff. This includes exposure to someone living in the home who is positive.
Action #4: Do not send your child back to school if the child or anyone in the household is awaiting a COVID-19 test result. Only send your child back if they have a negative test result or if they have completed the entire quarantine period.
Action #5: Have your child vaccinated if they are 12 to 17 years old. Remember, your child will not need to be quarantined if they come in close contact at school if they are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. The vaccination will keep them in school and able to participate in all of the extracurricular activities like athletics, band, dance, ASB, etc.
If we can proactively respond to these five calls to action, then we can dramatically reduce the impact of quarantine on all students.
