Tohickon School Counseling News
November 2013
Welcome to the Tohickon School Counseling Newsletter
Hello students, parents, and families of Tohickon Middle School. The school counselors are excited for the start of the 2013-2014 school year. The school year is off to a great start and it will be a very busy year for everyone! There are some new faces in the Guidance suite this year. Mr. Stryker who was split between Holicong and Tohickon Middle Schools last year is now at Tohickon full time and is responsible for students with last names Ho-R. Mr. Striano is new to Tohickon this year and will be sharing his time between Tohickon and Holicong. Mr. Striano is responsible for students with last names S-Z. Last but not least, Mrs. Schute is still with Tohickon and will work with students who have the last names A-Hi. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school counselor who works with you or your student.
Marking Period 1 is in the Books!
On November 6th, the first marking period came to a close. Was yours excellent? Not quite what you were hoping for? In either case, we are a quarter way through the year, but there is still plent of time to keep up the good work, or develop new habits to get you back on track. If you feel like you need assistance, speaking wtih your school counselor is a great place to start!
Tohickon celebrates Veterans' Day
November 11 is recognized as Veterans' Day, where we as American's remember the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. To celebrate Veterans' Day, staff and students painted a giant American Flag on the Tohickon hillside. In additon, the 9th grade classes completed an oral history project in which the students interviewed family members about their life experiences. Those interviews were then recorded and the students reported their stories via a podcast that was tied to a photo with a QR code that was displayed in the hallways. As you look at the picture, you can scan the QR code with a smartphone and the photo comes to life with the sound of the student's voice who recorded the interview. Very impressive use of technology to meld the past with the present!
