Planning on attending EMCC, Glendale Community College or another Maricopa Community College? This is the ONE to apply for... Start by completing ONE online form (see link below) to apply for all of the Maricopa Foundation Scholarships. Completing a single application puts you in the running for some of the thousands of dollars in scholarships to be awarded to help students to pay for the Fall 2017 semester. Apply by March 10th. Please visit Mary Ciulei in the College and Career Center if you have any questions or need assistance.
The week we return from Spring Break, students will attend the Senior College Day at the EMCC campus. They will take the remaining two sections of the Placement test (Math and Writing) as well as meet with admission counselors and choose classes for the fall! The dates are March 21st and March 23rd. We have space for 50 students each trip. This means 100 of our seniors will be registered, tested, and scheduled for EMCC before they graduate!
Agua Fria High School is Hosting the ACT on Saturday, April 8th, 2017!
All juniors took a practice ACT on January 18th!
Agua Fria High School will once again offer FREE Saturday workshops to all students to help them prepare for the test. This program has been extremely successful in helping students increase their ACT scores.
These workshops are planned and executed by AFHS teachers, starting February 4th, from 8:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., and the seven following Saturdays (minus Spring Break).
Juniors - ACT Pre-Test data has been compiled and is available on this link. You may also use this website to sign up for the ACT Workshop.
Students can view their practice ACT scores and sign up for the workshops by clicking here.
We are currently accepting applications for our college readiness program, AVID. Please see Mr. Lucas or Mr. Gironi in the counseling office to pick up an application and discuss how AVID can support your path to college readiness.
Students often hear the question, "What do you want to do with your life?" Students have a variety of options to take interest inventories to discover what careers they should pursue based on likes, dislikes, and personality. Some of these are Strength Explorer and Career Cluster on Naviance, Wheel of Work on ACT, and apps such as Me3 and C'reer.
An option often overlooked is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). This test is sponsored by the military, however, there is NO obligation to join the military by taking this test. The ASVAB will give students accurate information about what their strengths are and recommendations about careers. There are a total of eight tests that cover typical school subjects such as math and reading, but also include questions about engines, construction, and electricity.
Agua Fria High School will be piloting a new on-line ASVAB on March 24th. Students will get results immediately after completing the test instead of waiting a month. Students should sign up in the counseling office.
* Please note: The military will not be contacting students based on the results from this pilot test, although students may use their results for military qualification.
