Te reo phrase of the week: taihoa (Wait)
Kia ora,
Today we held a pink shirt day to acknowledge how important it is for our school to be a bully free zone. Our mission statement is: Ka harikoa nga akonga katoa ki tetahi taiao akoranga e haumaru ana i to raatau angitu - All students will enjoy a safe learning environment where they experience success. This statement underpins everything that we try to achieve at Matapu School. Creating and maintaining a bully free environment is key to our students feeling safe at school. It encourages them to embrace new challenges, effectively work with others, and look forward to coming to school. Check out some of the wonderful pink outfits in the photos below.
SPA AGM
On Monday 23rd May at 6:30 pm the Matapu School Parents Association will hold their annual general meeting at the Matapu Hall. The SPA Committee play a vital role in raising local funds that support our strategic direction. Everyone is welcome to attend and I know they would love to see some new faces and members sign up.

As part of our preparation for our production item we have been learning about the sun. It is such an important element of our daily life but not one we think too much about…unless it is raining! We have learnt that the sun is a star, it is the centre of our solar system and we are the right distance away from the sun…if we were any closer we would get burnt up! If we wanted to travel to the sun it is 150 million kilometres away- and it would take us 170 years to drive there at 100km per hour!
Today we listened to the story of how Maui slowed Tama-nui-te ra (the sun). We loved the illustrations so we made our own using warm colours. We are very proud of our work!
