College Applications/Transcripts
The College Application
Congratulations to those of you who have applied! If you haven't started yet it's not too late. Early Action due date for many colleges is November 1st and this is the ideal deadline to guide your applications by. Many college scholarships may not be available if your application is submitted after this priority date. Some colleges have a later Early Action deadline (Bellarmine is Nov 15th, as an example).
- Early Action deadline is often the deadline for automatic merit scholarships from the college. Apply today!
- Common App isn't required for all colleges so double check if it's needed. If so, remember to add me as your counselor as a recommender right away!
Ordering Transcripts
Congratulations! You have submitted your college application but don't forget to send your transcript! The application is not complete until the transcript has been sent. Log in to Parchment and "Order" your transcript to be sent to your chosen institutions. http://www.parchment.com/
Virtual FAFSA Completion Event: College Goal Sunday!

Seniors:
The 2021-22 FAFSA form is here! Some states and schools have limited funds, so submit your application today. Also, check out the new myStudentAid app for iOS and Android.
Every senior should complete the FAFSA and each following year of undergrad/graduate school. Many PHS seniors have already completed the FAFSA. For students and families with questions here are some resources, and of course, please contact Mrs. Losey with questions.
Updates: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
- Use 2019 tax records.
- It's recommended to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to submit tax records.
- The FAFSA is the required application for all state financial aid programs and grants. In Indiana, students must complete the FAFSA by April 15th to be eligible for state aid.
- What is Financial Aid? Gift Aid=grants, scholarships, Self-Help Aid=loans, employment. Recommended to start searching and applying for scholarships junior year. FAFSA is the application for grants (money that does not have to be paid back).
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC): will be the same from school to school, calculated by a federal formula using information provided on FAFSA, amount the government determines a family can reasonably be expected to contribute, is NOT the amount your family will have to pay for college and is NOT the amount of federal aid a family will receive, and IS based on both student and parent contribution and household demographics of size, income, and number of students attending college.
- Families should log back in to their account to check the status. Processing can take 5-7 days and edits will be allowable after application is processed.
- Students should list all schools they are applying to on the FAFSA so the school(s) will receive the application in order to potentially make financial aid offers to the student.
