What do you do with realistic fiction, cardboard, three types of balls, and recycled goods? Build pinball machines, of course! These 4th graders demonstrated their understanding of a recent book with a choice of writing three essays or creating the pinball machines. Both end products showcased knowledge of character conflicts, motivators, and goals.

Pre-K News:
It has been a busy week!
On Monday, we continued our unit on Jan Brett. We acted out The Mitten story. On Tuesday, the therapy dogs came to school. The morning class enjoyed Ashley, Sadie, and Tucker. The afternoon class enjoyed Garbo and Toffee. In the water table, students have been being scientists. We have test tubes, water droppers, and colored water. They have been making many variations of different colors. In the area of math, we have been working on connecting number of object to their correct numbers. The afternoon session started working on ten frames and simple math equations. They loved re-writing the number sentences themselves. Today, firefighter Justin will come into class.
Have a fun Friday,
Miss Jenn
King's Classroom News:
In preparation for our next book we spent last week learning about pirates and pirate life. We came up with a list of questions we had and so far have been able to find the answer to most of our questions.
We began our next Magic Tree House book, Pirates Past Noon. We are learning to identify what happens, first, next, then and last in the chapter. We are using this information to write our chapter summaries.
We have learned four new sight words this week: five, of, you, are. We practice reading the word, spelling the word (looking at the letters), using the words in a sentence and graphing the words.
We are also learning new word patterns. This week we learned about the word pattern -ight and the trickster pattern -ir, -er, and -ur that all say the same thing!!
We are learning about measuring weight. We are practicing using a scale to help us compare the weight of objects.
