We had a great time celebrating our March Quality Students on Thursday, March 31st. Igancio Flores, Kansas City Comets soccer midfielder, was our guest speaker. Igancio, also known as Nacho, is from Santiago, Chili and attended Park University. He was able to connect with several of our students who are also from Chili! Igancio was joined by three of our Got Character Seniors from Platte County High School. All of our guests talked with the students about teamwork, being a good teammate, and what it meant to be a Captain of a team.

The Pathfinder Cafeteria will be open for visitors beginning on Monday, April 4th, 2022! In preparation for a full opening in the 2022-23 school year, we are trialing some practices related to visitors in the building. To minimize the influx of initial visitors and honor our current space limitations, visitors will be required to utilize this sign up (which outlines our available dates and spaces) prior to visiting their student for lunch. Grade levels will have visitor availability every other day during the 4th Quarter. Here are some guidelines that will help make this "soft opening" a success:

• Prior to visiting, please verify your student's lunch time and utilize the sign up to reserve your spot (1 sign up = 1 visitor seat). No more than 2 adults can sign up. Please be respectful of the face that many parents will be excited to come visit at lunch time and do not sign up for slots in bulk (ie. every Friday for the rest of the year).
• Bring a state-issued ID to get signed in. Visitors must be listed on the student’s SISK12 account or parent permission must be received at the office prior to the visit.
• Please keep in mind that we have limited seating for visitors. Finding other arrangements for younger siblings during the lunch visit would be appreciated.
• To preserve the testing environment, we will not add visitation dates during building-wide MAP testing dates (May 2nd - May 13th).
• Parents can either bring outside food for their child and self, or the student can eat the free lunch service and parents can bring a packed lunch.
• Parents may not go back to the classroom or recess after lunch.
• Only the child (no friends) can sit with parents during lunch.
• Parents who show up for lunch without signing up will be added if there is an open spot, but denied if not. The office can help the parent sign up for a future date.

The Platte County R-3 School District is excited to announce that Summer School will be held in June 1-28, 2022, at the following locations:

• Pathfinder Elementary: Kindergarten – 5th grade (K-5 students from Pathfinder and Barry attendance areas)
• Compass Elementary: Kindergarten – 5th grade (students from Siegrist and Compass attendance areas)
• Barry School: 6th grade – 8th grade (6-8 students from Barry School attendance areas)
• Platte City Middle School: 6th grade – 8th grade (students from PCMS attendance areas)
• Platte County High School Paxton Center: 9th grade – 12th grade (PCHS students)

All Platte County R-3 students are invited to attend and continue to grow as learners throughout the summer! You can now enroll for 2022 Summer School via the e-Forms on Parent Portal and should complete your registration by Friday, April 8, 2022. Please note the e-Forms are not available via the Student 360 mobile app.

Follow the steps below to complete the online summer school enrollment.

• Log on to Parent Portal via a web browser. If you need assistance logging in, please contact your child's school.
• Find and click on the e-Forms "view" link highlighted in yellow (see screenshot).
• Complete each linked form in the list and click "submit."
• A message asking you to confirm your submission will display on the screen.

**Incoming Kindergarten students should complete summer school registration forms when completing their regular school year enrollment paperwork (Kindergarten Kickoffs are scheduled for March 29).

The Attendance Area Boundary Committee has met in January, February, and March to examine attendance area scenarios and evaluate them based on prioritized boundary criteria in order to provide a recommendation to the Board of Education in June 2022.

This work is to develop attendance areas for our four elementaries (Barry, Compass, Pathfinder, and Siegrist) and two middle schools (Platte City Middle School and Platte Purchase Middle School) for the start of the 2023-24 school year. Click here to read about the committee's work to date.

Two Public Feedback Sessions will be held to gather thoughts from District residents:

• April 13 at 6:00pm in the gymnasium at Barry School, and
• April 14, 2022, at 6:00pm in the Wilson Auditorium at Platte County High School.

Committee members and the District's third-party demographer, RSP and Associates, will be present to explain the process and listen to community input. Attendees will have the opportunity to document feedback. Feedback forms and the presentation will also be available on the District's website following the Public Feedback Sessions.

Thursday was not too "Springlike" for us to take our Spring pictures. Due to the cancellation of school we have rescheduled Spring pictures to Thursday, April 14th. Moving back our Spring pictures and class pictures we will allow parents to continue to send in money for class pictures until April 14th.

Reminder that we do not have school Friday, April 15th or Monday, April 18th due to district inservice. We hope our families are able to enjoy a four day Easter weekend!

This year's Pirates ROCK End-of-Year Celebration will take place at the Sharpen the Saw Challenge Course at Barry-Platte Park on Friday, April 29. In a few weeks, students in grade 3rd and 4th grade will be participating in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessments. Additional information will be sent home on Friday, April 1st regarding the test, but we wanted to inform you of the district's testing schedule. Please make every attempt to ensure that your child is present during anticipated testing times/dates and that he/she is prepared for testing.

The Board approved the academic calendar for the 2022-23 school year, as suggested by teachers, support staff, parents and board members on the calendar committee, and taking into consideration feedback during public review. The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 23, 2022, and the last day of school is planned for Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Other important dates include: Winter Break begins with a 3-hour early dismissal on December 21, 2022 and runs through January 3, 2023; Spring Break is March 20-24, 2023; and in addition to makeup days at the end of the school year, the calendar identifies February 20 and April as possible make up days, if needed.

The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community.
