COUNSELORS CORNER
Did you know??? Out of every 4 fentanyl pills, 1 pill contains a lethal dose of fentanyl! In recent news, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office just conducted a drug bust in which 54,840 fentanyl pills were discovered (https://www.pinalcountyaz.gov/Sheriff/Pages/PSCONewsArticle.aspx?aid=287). If you do the math, 13,710 of those pills are lethal! That means that 13,710 people in Arizona may not see their next day, and many of those could be children under the age of 18. That is not an acceptable risk and educating our children is the key to combating substance abuse.
Did you know??? There are several reasons that students begin the path toward substance abuse. Sometimes, it's peer pressure, it could be simple boredom leading to experimentation, or it could be related to trauma. Studies show that 70% of students who struggle with substance abuse have experienced trauma in their past. This video from TedMed gives an excellent overview of what trauma is, and how it affects our children, including leading them to possible substance abuse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95ovIJ3dsNk
Did you know??? Counselors were in the Junior and Sophomore English classrooms to talk to students about grades, credits, college, EVIT, and other important subjects.
