What does it Mean to be American as a Pioneer?

"President James Polk stated that it was America's Manifest Destiny to settle North America."(Rural America: The Westward Movement) Being American means persevering and not giving up. The pioneers were a great example of this, they persevered and didn't give up no matter what they ran into. They kept going. They didn't give up. That's what it means to be an American.

The Donner Party is a great example of the American dream. They endured so much but did they turn around, no, they kept going no matter how tough it got. They got discouraged but they didn't give up.They kept going and eventually made it. The Donner Party defines the American Dream in the best way. The dream to move west and start a new, a better life. They were true Americans.
