From the Heart
Team,
Remember to have an individual conference with every student that failed your class and create a plan for success. Set a grade goal for passing the semester with action steps to succeed. As I visit classrooms, differentiation is still a work in progress in most classes. It is a difficult task, but, one that when mastered. will create pathways for students to be engaged and successful in your class. When designing your lessons, please keep these 3 must haves in mind.
1. An objective for that class period.
2 . Differentiation to include all learners
3. Assessment of that class period objective with immediate or next class period feedback to student.
The Gallup Survey
My initial thought was to see how we could improve here at CA, but only half responded and with no real suggestions. I understand you are busy. So instead of creating a survey every week, if you have an idea to improve our working conditions, please feel free to email me or let me know. Knowing what is expected at work was one of our lowest on the survey last year. I am striving to communicate clear expectations this year, so that everyone is comfortable with what is expected. I would love to hear how I can be even better!
Thank you Tony for organizing our Thursday Tailgate Luncheon! And thanks again for the Haiku book you put together for me! It is the best gift ever!
I attended a meeting yesterday where Dr. Ryan's wife, Dr. Ryan, spoke. :-) . Here are some takeaways for all of us.
Top Ten Things you should know!

Lauren's Learnings
Differentiation with Rigor and Relevance:
All students should have the opportunity for a rigorous learning experience, and all students should be challenged to think critically. However, that doesn’t look the same for each student sitting in your class. We have to differentiate our lessons in order to meet the needs of our students.
When we walked to Mr. Forge or Ms. Troi, we analyzed their quotes and gave an argument as to why we chose to stand there. That strategy is a quick and rigorous formative assessment that can uncover students’ misconceptions.
I love brainstorming creative ways to differentiate a lesson. Just talking about your lessons out loud with someone can be so helpful. Please let me know how I can help.
Finally, remember to collect differentiated student work this week, so that we can use that and your lesson plans to give each other helpful feedback during PLC on Friday.
