May 1-7, 2022: Teacher Appreciation WeekThe first week of May is dedicated to Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a time where we show appreciation and love for ALL of the wonderful teachers out there. Teacher Appreciation Day falls on May 5, so make sure to show some love to your favorite teachers. Teachers don't just teach, they inspire. Give thanks to teachers for all of the work they do on a daily basis. First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt helped to implement Teacher Appreciation Day in 1953. The National Education Association pushed for it to become an official holiday in 1980, along with Teacher Appreciation Week. How do you like them apples? Moms are some of the most cherished individuals in all the world. They nurture and care for their children and watch them grow into capable human beings. Without them, what would we do? Mother's Day was inspired by Anna Jarvis to become a national holiday in 1908. President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day an official holiday in 1914. Surrisi and Diane Goode Mother’s Day Read Aloud: I Love You, Mommy by IglooBooks | May 30, 2022: Memorial Day On Memorial Day, we honor those in the United States Armed Forces and recognize the efforts and sacrifices they made fighting for our country. They are heroes because they risk their lives to keep citizens safe. It began after the Civil War in 1868 to remember the fallen soldiers of the Union Army. May 30th was the date chosen since flowers are in bloom during this time. People then used the flowers to place on the graves of the soldiers who lost their lives in battle. This tradition continues today. Memorial Day is viewed as the beginning of summer. On this day people pay tribute to U.S. soldiers, have barbecues, go to parades, and even go to the beach.
