NEW THIS WEEK

Ideas for Self-Care/Mindfulness in Teachers Lounge

Angela Bailey, SEL Specialist, and I set up a Self-Care/Mindfulness Space at Maplewood last week. I wanted to share the stations that we set up as ideas for you to use in your teachers lounge. Have questions or want support to make this happen at your school? Please email me, james.butler@austinisd.org

  • Mindful Smelling: Cotton balls & essential oils
  • Mindful Coloring: Coloring pages & gel pens/colored pencils
  • Mindful Breathing: iPads w/ Calm app
  • Mindful Eating: Dark chocolate (challenge: eat w/o chewing)
  • Aromatherapy Neck Pillow: Fill the sock with rice and add several drops of essential oils. It's very comforting and can be warmed up in the microwave too.

MindYeti Update

MindYeti has updated their site and added three new free sessions. Their most recent blog post is below and it contains links to their new content.

Article about a middle school in Santa Monica, CA that is doing mindfulness work in PE.

Mindful Classrooms--Week 31

If you're using Mindful Classrooms: The Educator Guide, I recommend using Week 31 this week. It's a very loose recommendation though. Please do what's best for you and your students. If you'd like the free electronic copy for AISD staff, please feel out the Google Form at the bottom of this page.

Photos/stories of Mindful Classrooms being used in class are always welcome and would be great for the newsletter! Email James Butler.
