Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
The Elsik High School Mighty Ram Band performed at Lizzo's The Special Tour Concert.
The band performed as fans entered the Toyota Center on Wednesday, October 26. The students were recognized by Lizzo during the concert.
Lizzo graduated from Elsik High School in 2006 and attended Hicks, Youngblood, and Albright.
Alief ISD high school students in the Center for Advanced Careers Welding Program won more than $18,000 in scholarships.
Seventeen Alief ISD CTE students competed at the 2nd Annual Cleveland Weld Off Certification Event held at Cleveland High School. Alief ISD students received scholarships as well as other honors, including:
- Elsik High School student Fernando Deloera won first place in the Level 1 category out of 139 contestants. He won $7,500 in scholarships from The Ocean Corp, Precision Welding Academy, Tulsa Welding School and ArcLabs, along with other prizes and a certification.
- Hastings High School student Diego Rivera placed second out of 63 contestants in the Level 3 category. He received $4,000 in scholarships, prizes, and a certification.
Kerr High School Choir Results
Thirteen Kerr choir students will sing in the Region Choir on November 12, including five students in the top Mixed Choir and eight performing with the Treble Choir.
Kerr also has 4 Pre-Area candidates who will compete on December 1 to audition for a spot in the Texas All-State Choir.

Albright Middle School student Ephraim Nwabuko published a book called The Crystals of Existence.
The book is on sale at Barnes and Nobles, Amazon and at Books a Million. Nwabuko has been attending Alief ISD schools since Kindergarten.
Hastings High School teacher Gregg Jones was selected by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the College Football Playoff Foundation in their Extra Yard for Teachers Recognition Program.
Jones was selected for his commitment and service to our students and our athletic community. Jones has taught at Hastings for 15 years and can be seen at many sporting events throughout the year.
The recognition program aims to inspire and empower Texas teachers by focusing on programs that provide recognition, resources, recruitment, and professional development.
