Eagle Rock Middle School Parent Newsletter
October 24, 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Hello Eagle Rock Family,
I would like to start by apologizing for missing the last couple of weeks with this newsletter. We have had some changes in our front office; Mrs. Conner, our assistant principal, has gone on leave until at least the end of January. In the meantime, Mrs. Brooke Stosich will be our interim assistant principal. Mrs. Stosich is currently the principal for D91 Online and prior to was that the assistant principal at Taylorview Middle School. She brings a lot of great experience and insight and we are happy to welcome her in our school during Mrs. Conner's absence.
I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of the parents who came to our open house parent-teacher conferences last Tuesday or communicated with teachers via phone or email in the past few weeks. It was so great to see so many of you. Students succeed when they know you care and your effort, paired with our amazing teachers, helps our students. If you were unable to attend open house conferences or have questions about your student's grades in Power School, please reach out to your students' teachers who are happy to talk with you.
This week we look forward to many of our students getting to display their talents at our orchestra, band, and choir concerts. We also have our first home wrestling matches and girls basketball games this week as well. Please check the "Happening This Week" section of our newsletter for dates and times.
This week is also our Red Ribbon Week, which is tied to the largest drug-abuse prevention campaigns in the United States. Beyond what we are doing here at school, we hope that you will have a conversation with your students about drug use. I am in my 4th year here at Eagle Rock, and I have seen an uptick in the number of incidents involving students and vaping (e-cigarettes). We do everything we can to keep our school safe and free from vaping and are continually working with our SRO, Officer Brizzee, to educate students and parents on the risks involved with this.
In almost all of my interviews with students who are found with or using a vape, they mention that they were able to purchase or get the vapes from other students or adults who advertise purchase (and in some cases delivery) on Snapchat, Instagram, or other social media outlets. Please be aware of your student's online activity and check in frequently with their use so you can help keep them away from those that would use these platforms in harmful ways. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school and our SRO or visit www.projectfilter.org for resources to address this problem.
Thank you for all of your support for both your students and our school,
Ethan Wilford, M.Ed.

LCA (Loss of credit due to absences)
What is an LCA? LCA (Loss of credit due to absences)
LCAs are given in any class where you have more than 5 absences, that are not Medically, School Activity, Death in the Family verified. Verified and unverified absences count against you.
If you don’t make up your time for your missed classes before the end of the trimester, you might not get credit for them.
You will need to make up one hour of time for any missed classes over 5 absences.
For example: 6 unverified absences in History = 1 hour of make up time
10 verified absences in Art = 5 hours of make up time.
There are time cards in the front office that you can pick up. To make up time, talk to your teachers to arrange time before school, lunch, or after school. Teachers will sign your time card and note the time you made up. Make sure you return the timecard to the office to receive credit for the made-up hours.
If you have any questions about your LCAs, come see Mrs. Miramontes or Ms. Rayner in the front office.
Pay for Lunch with Titan
Please make sure parents know Titan, not e-Funds, is the way to pay for school lunch. Parents just need to set up an account in Titan, and then they can pay for lunch, check balances, and more. Here’s the Titan Link – https://family.titank12.com/?identifier=738XVG&lang=English
Within Reach
Check out the new Within Reach webpage with resources to help parents encourage their children to “Go On” after high school. https://www.ifschools.org/withinreach The program is a partnership between D91, Idaho Business for Education and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. IBE & Federal Reserve Bank representatives were in town this week to hold the first Lunch & Learn sessions at EIRMC, City of Idaho Falls, Hartwell Insurance & Teton Steel. The goal is to connect with parents in the workplace and emphasize the importance of a postsecondary education, whether it’s a 4-year degree or trades apprenticeship. (It’s a powerful new way to spread the message we share with our students all the time.) More Lunch & Learns are planned throughout the year. We are the only school district currently involved in this program, which IBE and the Federal Reserve Bank hope to take statewide and maybe even regionwide. Watch for more updates and please share the resources with your families.
