6th Grade - The Phantom Tollbooth Project

Our sixth-grade students read and analyzed the novel, The Phantom Tollbooth, over the course of the third quarter. To stretch their brains, they had to use the information from the story to take us on a journey by creating a travel brochure highlighting important details from the book. They had to be Thinkers in order to determine how best to present the information as well as creatively incorporate that information in a way that fit the format of a travel brochure. Through the Independent Reading Requirement (IRR), our kids took us on some amazing adventures!

7/8 Visual Arts - Mural

Students are working on an exciting new Heritage Mural that focuses on both the history of the citrus industry in Corona as well as the Circle City Races that were held on Grand Avenue in the early 1900s.

While the appearance of the mural will be very colorful with a mosaic quality, the monochromatic palette for each wooden "tile" is reminiscent of the original sepia-toned photographs we are using as the source of our inspiration. Both old time race photos and citrus crate labels will be depicted in the mural that we are hoping to unveil at the end of this school year.

Many of our IB students are opting to work on the mural both inside and outside of class as part of their Service as Action requirement.

After we return from Spring Break, Raney will begin our annual State testing. During this time students will still be going to all of their classes, every day, but the bell schedule will be adjusted to allow time for the testing block. Please help your student remember to charge their Chromebook fully every night and pack it for school every morning.

April 17-21: 8th Grade only - California Science Test (CAST). Students will complete this assessment in their science classes.

Whole School - California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

April 24-28: ELA testing

May 1-5: Math testing

May 8-12: Make up testing for students who were absent during previous weeks.

Learner Profile of the Month - Open Minded

Each month we celebrate our students who have excelled at embodying the IB Learner Profiles! The month of March was Open Minded. Students who are open minded critically appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
